DRIVER IDENTIFIED IN FATAL COLLISION (Blind River, ON.) – Police have concluded their investigation into the collision involving two tractor trailers that occurred on Highway 17 in Algoma Mills on June 14, 2011 at 10:30 p.m.
DRIVER IDENTIFIED IN FATAL COLLISION

(Blind River, ON.) – Police have concluded their investigation into the collision involving two tractor trailers that occurred on Highway 17 in Algoma Mills on June 14, 2011 at 10:30 p.m. Through their investigation police learned that at a 2005 Volvo tractor trailer was eastbound on highway 17 in the Algoma Mills area, then for unknown reasons the vehicle crossed into westbound lane where it collided with a 2000 Peterbuilt tractor trailer and both vehicle burst into flames.

The driver of the westbound vehicle was able escape but suffered minor burns to his body. He was transported to the Blind River hospital for treatment of his injures.

The driver of the eastbound Volvo was unable to escape and died as a result of his injuries. Deceased is 60 year old Ante BUTKOVIC of Etobicoke Ontario. After the collision the highway remained only open to a single lane of traffic until it could be repaired and resurfaced. It was completely reopened in the evening of June 16.
