(SUPERIOR EAST) – OPP report a quiet 24 hour period within the Superior East patrol area. Officers conducted RIDE checks at various locations resulting in 225 vehicles being checked. 14 snow vehicles were also checked resulting in one Motorized Snow Vehicle Act warning being issued.

Ice Reminder

This time of year with the weather beginning to warm up, ice conditions are beginning to deteriorate and can become unstable quickly. Snowmobilers are reminded to use extreme caution and common sense when taking to the trails. Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return. Carry safety items with you such as ice picks and throw ropes and be familiar with their use. Speed and alcohol factor significantly in the snowmobile crashes and deaths investigated by the OPP so please don’t drink and ride.


Attempted Break and Enter Royal Order of Eagles Club

Sault Ste Marie OPP is investigating an attempted break and enter into the Royal Order of the Eagles club house on Trout Lake road. Thieves attempted to break into the club sometime between 11:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. overnight Monday by breaking a door window with a ball peen hammer. Successful entry was not gained. The club has been subjected to a number of Break and Enters over the years. Failure to carry proof of Insurance Results in Charges

OPP traffic enforcement officers continually stop motorist who have failed to put their current insurance card in their vehicles. Drivers must be able to show current proof of insurance or face a fine of $65.00. under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Driving with no insurance usually results in fines in excess of $1000.00

SHOPLIFTING IS A CRIME

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On March 17th, 2009 an officer of the East Algoma OPP received a call to attend a store at 151 Ontario Avenue regarding a possible theft.

On scene police learned that the accused had attended the store and allegedly walked through the store placing items in a baby stroller. The suspect then left the store making no attempt to pay.

Charged with the following is Krystal HAMM (21) of Elliot Lake.
