DRIVER CHARGED


(Sudbury, ON) - At 2:10 p.m. on Monday, March 17th, 2008, members of the Sudbury and Espanola OPP Detachments responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Sleepy Hollow Road, City of Greater Sudbury.

Investigation revealed that a westbound car crossed the centre line and struck an oncoming mini van head-on. The lone female occupant driving the car was air lifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sudbury where she was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries. The two female occupants in the mini van who are from Wikwemikong, were treated and released from hospital for minor injuries.

Sudbury and Espanola Fire Departments attended the scene as all three occupants had to be extricated from the wreckage.

Officers have completed their investigation and charged the 19-year-old female driver of the car, who is from Sudbury, with Careless Driving.

The highway was closed in both directions for about 1 ½ hour and fully re-opened in both directions at 4:30 p.m.

Road and weather conditions were not a factor in this collision.

VEHICLE ROLLOVER ON HIGHWAY 556

(Deroche Twp., Ont.) Ontario Provincial Police investigated a vehicle rollover yesterday afternoon at 5:00 pm on Highway 556 in Deroche Township.
The highway was slushy at the time. There were no injuries to the driver. A tow truck had to be used to remove the mini van.

WARRANT EXECUTED

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) Officers from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service arrested Sean Henry SEGUIN, 28 years old of 819 Trunk Road, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario yesterday afternoon around 2:00 pm. SEQUIN had an outstanding warrant for Fraud and Uttering a Forged Document. He is to appear in Bail Court this morning.
CRIMINAL CHARGES LAID IN FAMILY DISPUTE

Batchewana First Nation Police were called to a residence on August Street yesterday around 2:50 pm. It is alleged that a female visiting the residence threatened the occupant and threw an ice pick at the front window causing it to shatter.

A 21 year old female was arrested and charged with Threatening and Mischief. She is to appear in Bail Court this morning.

WARRANT EXECUTED IN CONNECTION TO HOME INVASION

Kevin ROBINSON, 19 years old, of 229 Upton Road Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was located in the City of Sault Ste. Marie yesterday afternoon and arrested on an outstanding warrant for Fail to Appear and Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

These charges stem from an incident in January 2008 on Batchewana First Nation Territory. ROBINSON was held in custody and is to appear in Bail Court today.

UPDATE - PLANE CRASH – McKerrow

(Espanola) – On March 17th, 2008 at 3:15 p.m. members of the Espanola OPP Detachment responded to a plane crash in a farmer’s field on Van Alstine Road, McKerrow, ON.
Investigation reveals that the male pilot left Guelph, ON and was enroute to Elliot Lake, ON. Prior to his departure, he calculated that he would have three hours and thirty-six minutes of flying time. After two hours of flying, the pilot noticed that his fuel gauge was reading “empty” and at this time, he called in a distress call and looked for a place to land. As he set the plane down in the field, the front wheel got caught in the snow and the plane flipped over on its roof. He managed to crawl out the window and was assisted by the owner of the property.
The pilot, who was the lone occupant, was treated for minor back injuries and released from the Espanola General Hospital.

The licenced pilot is identified as Chitranshu KALRA, age 25, who is from New Dehlhi, India but is temporarily residing in Guelph, ON.

Transport Canada was notified and is continuing the investigating into this crash.
