FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(Temagami, Ontario) The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two motor vehicles on Highway 11 approximately 1 kilometer north of Richfield Road that occurred at approximately 3:13 p.m. 25 March 2008.

The two vehicles involved in the collision were a 1998 Chev Malibu which was southbound and a 1996 Plymouth Neon which was northbound. There were three people pronounced dead at the scene of the motor vehicle collision. Names of the persons are being withheld at this time until next of kin can be notified.

The Ontario Provincial Police Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, Identification Unit, Temagami and Marten River Fire Departments and ambulance attended to give assistance.

Highway 11 northbound and southbound lanes were closed from approximately 3:35 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Further information regarding the motor vehicle collision will be released when available.

VEHICLE STOP RESULTS IN DRUG CHARGE

(Aweres Township, Ont.) A vehicle stop on Highway 17 near Trout Lake Road in Aweres Township yesterday around 3:00 pm resulted in the passenger being charged under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act with Possession of a Controlled Substance. A small quantity of what is believed to be marijuana was seized.

Charged is 60 year old Joseph Emile PHILLIPS of 6 Cedar Court in Aweres Township. PHILLIPS is to appear in court on May 5th, 2008.

HEAD ON COLLISION SENDS TWO PASSENGERS TO HOSPITAL

(MacDonald Township, Ont.) A two vehicle collision on Highway 638 in MacDonald Township yesterday evening around 7:30 pm sent two passengers to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A pick up truck was traveling southbound on Highway 638 when the driver of another pick up truck traveling northbound with two passengers lost control of his truck on a patch of slush and went into the southbound lane causing both vehicles to collide head on.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Further investigation revealed that the driver of the southbound pick up truck did not have any insurance on his vehicle.

Charged with Driving Without Insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act is Phillip A RENNER, 32 years old, of 49 Wellington St. East, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He is to appear in court on April 28th, 2008.

RENNER was also charged with not having currently validated license plates under the Highway Traffic Act.


THEFT OF REFRIGERATOR

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On Sunday the 23rd of March 2008 the East Algoma OPP received a complaint of a possible theft. Police attended and spoke with the property manager of the apartment building on Axmith Avenue in Elliot Lake. The complainant reported that a tenant had been renting an apartment and had recently moved out. Missing was a refrigerator.

Charged with Theft Under is Douglas CAMERON (40) of Elliot Lake. CAMERON remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

OPP AND STOP OFFICERS CONTINUE SNOWMOBILE PATROLS!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP and S.T.O.P. officers patrolled trails during this past weekend. 24 sleds and 8 ATV’s were checked with no infractions.

Police remind the public to check the ice thickness before attempting to ride on lakes.
