HIGHWAY 17 NORTH IS REOPENED
Pancake Bay

Hwy 17 north of Sault Ste. Marie between Pancake Bay and Wawa was reopened to traffic just after 12:00 this morning. The highway had been closed at about noon yesterday due to snow blowing off Lake Superior and cutting visibility to zero.

Transport trucks were jack-knifed in the Montreal River area and even a sand truck was reported off the road and in the ditch.

Sault and Wawa OPP manned roadblocks at Pancake Bay and Wawa to prevent motorists from travelling that stretch of highway. The highway remains snow covered with reduced visibility in some areas. Use extreme caution if you have to travel up highway 17 north today.
