MISSING PROPERTY LOCATED 10 YEARS LATER (Elliot Lake, Ont.) The Elliot Lake Fire Department responded to a fire behind Paris Drive on May 7th, 2007 at approximately 11:56 a.m. While putting out the fire, a fire officer located a small plastic bag.
MISSING PROPERTY LOCATED 10 YEARS LATER

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The Elliot Lake Fire Department responded to a fire behind Paris Drive on May 7th, 2007 at approximately 11:56 a.m. While putting out the fire, a fire officer located a small plastic bag. When the bag was opened a quantity of jewellery was located and police were notified.

Police checked the contents of the bag and the owners were identified. The property had been missing since 1997. The victims had reported a break and enter to their residence and the recovered property had been some of the stolen items. A male has since been convicted of this offence.

The owners/victim were thankful for the return of their property.


ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP COSTLY FOR DRIVER

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) At approximately 12:54 p.m. an officer with the East Algoma OPP, while on general patrol conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was stopped on Ottawa Avenue and further investigation led to the following charge.

Charged with Over 80MG is Anita CARD (78) of Elliot Lake. CARD is scheduled to appear in court on August 7th, 2007.

An officer with the Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the OPP had to do some serious swerving last night to avoid yet another hazard on Hwy 17.

At about 10:00 p.m. last night the officer was traveling on Hwy 17 in the area of Pumpkin Point Road in Laird Township. The officer suddenly came upon a man standing in the middle of the roadway. The officer swerved to avoid hitting the man but the man didn’t appear to make an attempt to get out of the way.

Further investigation revealed the man was in need of a psychiatric assessment. A fifty eight year old British Columbia man was taken to Sault Area Hospital and admitted to the hospital for the necessary assistance.
