(Fenwick Twp., ON) Yesterday evening at 11:20 pm OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 north involving a Jeep and a moose.

The Jeep was travelling southbound on Highway 17 when it collided with a moose on the roadway.

The driver received minor injuries.

The vehicle was also damaged.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION LEADS TO ARREST

(Fenwick Twp., ON) On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at approximately 9:00 am Sault Ste. Marie OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 north, just south of Anglican Church road.

A car travelling southbound on Highway 17 passed another vehicle also travelling southbound.

The passing car lost control, spun out and crashed into a large section of guard rails, narrowly missing the passed vehicle.

An off duty OPP officer travelling through the area was first at the scene and stopped to render assistance.

The driver of the car exhibited strong signs of impairment.

The driver was transported to Sault Ste. Marie Police Service for testing by a Drug Recognition Evaluator.

As a result of police investigation, forty-two year old Roger  Dale MITCHELL of 3872 Highway 17 Fenwick Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle by Drug, Dangerous Driving, and Breach of Undertaking. 

There were also two outstanding warrants for the accused for Failing to Appear in court.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing this morning at 10:00 am in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court.

The vehicle was demolished.

No injuries were reported.

MANITOULIN OPP INVESTIGATE REPORT OF DOMESTIC ASSAULT

(MINDEMOYA, ON) – On Saturday May 5, 2012, Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a report of an assault that occurred in 2010.  The assault was as a result of a domestic situation that occurred in Mindemoya.

On May 9, 2012 the OPP arrested and charged the accused with one count of assault.  The accused is a member of the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service who was off duty at the time of the offence.

This individual was released from custody on a promise to appear under strict conditions and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Monday June 25, 2012.

The OPP will not release the name of the charged person in this investigation to protect the identity of victim.

MINISTRY SIGNS REMOVED UNLAWFULLY

(DUBREUILVILLE, ON) – On May 4th, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) that several road access control signs had been removed from various locations.  The signs had been posted on bush roads outside Wawa and Dubreuilville.  Some of the signs were recovered in the community of Dubreuilville.  At this time OPP continue to investigate and are requesting that anyone with any information is requested to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

(WAWA, ON) – On May 4th, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment responded to a domestic disturbance complaint.  As a result of the investigation a 49 year old local male was arrested and charged with following offences;

  1. Assault
  2. Theft Under $5,000
  3. Unlawfully in a Dwelling House

The accused has been transported to Sault Ste Marie to appear in Bail Court on May 9th.  No names will be released in this matter in order to protect the identity of the victim.

BREAK AND ENTER

(MICHIPICOTEN FIRST NATION RESERVE, ON) – On May 7th, 2012 a break and enter to a residence on the Michipicoten First Nation Reserve was reported to the Superior East Wawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.  The break in is believed to have occurred sometime between May 6th and the May 7th.  Stolen from the residence was an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency and cigarettes.  OPP are continuing their investigation at this time.  Anyone with any information is requested to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.
