(Garden River First Nation, ON) – OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision yesterday evening at 11:30 pm on Highway 17 east near Jardin Mine Road.

A vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 17 collided with a bear on the roadway.

A 59 year old male was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle had to be towed.

MALE ARRESTED FOR BREAK AND ENTER

(Aweres Twp., ON) – On Tuesday, October 18 at 11:00 pm Sault Ste. Marie OPP officers received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the 600 block of Trout Lake Road in Aweres Township.

The complainant could hear a vehicle spinning its tires. It appeared to be stuck in his neighbours’ camp driveway. The owner of the camp was not home.

The vehicle was described as a black Ford car.

A short while later OPP officers attended the Trout Lake road area and observed the vehicle.

The vehicle was stopped by Police.

Items were observed in the back seat of the vehicle, including four extension cords and a 9.8hp Mercury outboard motor.

The owner of the camp attended at the scene and identified the property as his own that was kept at his camp in separate outbuildings situated in the 600 block of Trout Lake Road.

Further investigation revealed open liquor and a set of bolt cutters in the rear seat of the vehicle.

25 year old Joseph BENNETT of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Two counts of break and enter contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 contrary to the CC of Canada

Possession of Break in Instruments contrary to the CC of Canada

Two counts of Driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Use plate not authorized for vehicle contrary to the HTA

Operate a motor vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

Driving a Motor Vehicle with liquor readily available contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

The accused was held in custody and is to appear in bail court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario today.
