CHARGES LAID AFTER FIGHT BREAKS OUT AT WEDDING

(Blind River, ON.) On September 26, 2009 at 10:00 pm officers from the East Algoma OPP Blind River detachment were on Woodward Ave in Blind River when they were flagged down by a female yelling for assistance. A wedding reception was taking place and members in attendance were causing problems to the point where the bride wanted them to leave. Officers requested the individuals leave but they refused the officers instructions and became aggressive towards police. Other family members came to the assistance of the ousted persons which resulted in an altercation with police and others in attendance. Officers from neighbouring detachments were called for assistance as the crowd had now grown to over 50 people. Police were able to gain control of the situation which resulted in the arrest of four males. The four males have all been held for bail.

1) Brett Christian BURKE, 20 years old of Elliot Lake

- Cause a Disturbance – Criminal Code
- Assault 3 Counts – Criminal Code
- Assault a Peace Officer – Criminal Code
- Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer – Criminal Code
- Public Incitement of Hatred2 Counts – Criminal Code
- Intoxicated in a Public Place- Liquor Licence Act
- Fail to Leave Premise when Directed – Trespass to Property Act
- Enter Premise when Prohibited – Trespass to Property Act


2) Chevy James BURKE, 23 years old of Serpent River First Nation

- Assault 3 Counts
- Cause a Disturbance
- Assault a Peace Officer
- Intoxicated in a Public Place- Liquor Licence Act
- Fail to Leave Premise when Directed – Trespass to Property Act
- Enter Premise when Prohibited – Trespass to Property Act

3) Dakotha Dayne BURKE, 19 years old of Blind River

- Cause a disturbance – Criminal Code
- Assault 3 Counts - Criminal Code
- Obstruct/Resist a Peace Officer - Criminal Code
- Assault a Peace Officer - Criminal Code
- Intoxicated in a Public Place- Liquor Licence Act

4) James Milton BURKE, 61 years old of Blind River
