MALE AND FEMALE CHARGED AFTER CONFRONTATION WITH POLICE (Blind River, ON.) – On September 1, 2013 at 2:45 a.m.

MALE AND FEMALE CHARGED AFTER CONFRONTATION WITH POLICE

(Blind River, ON.) – On September 1, 2013 at 2:45 a.m. officers from the East Algoma OPP in Blind River approached a male and female walking on Woodward Avenue in Blind River who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.  While the male was being arrested for intoxicated in a public place an altercation took place between the officers, the male and female.  Officers were able to take control the two individuals who now face criminal charges. 

James Colin HOEBURG, 27 years of age from Mississauga First Nation is charged was charged with resisting arrest under the Criminal Code and being intoxicated in a public place under the Liquor Licence Act. 

Ashley Grossman, 20 years of age from Blind River has been charged with the following offences: 

  • Intoxicated in a public place
  • Resist Arrest
  • Assault with the intent to resist arrest
  • Mischief under $5000

Both HOEBURG and GROSSMAN were released and are scheduled to appear in Blind River Provincial Court on December 5 2013 for answer to the charges.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – While on general patrol August 31, 2013 an officer of the East Algoma OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 108 at approximately 6:30 p.m. While speaking with the driver, the officer could detect an odour of an alcoholic beverage. 

Through investigation, the driver was arrested and charged.

Charged with the following is Albert LAROCQUE (61) of Chapleau.

  • Impaired Operation
  • Exceed 80
  • Breach of Probation (X2)

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie.

STOLEN BICYCLE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The OPP is currently investigating a theft of a bicycle from a residence on Hillside Drive South.

The victim reports that between the evening of August 30, 2013 and the early hours of August 31, 2013 unknown person(s) entered the car port area and stole a custom BMX bicycle.

The bicycle is described as follows:

  • BMX racing/stunt small male frame bicycle
  • Aqua Green frame
  • Purple grips, pedals and sprocket
  • Blue, pink, purple and white seat

Approximate value $515.00

THEFT OF 4 WHEELER EQUALS ONE SAD LITTLE BOY

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The OPP is currently investigating the theft of a kid’s battery 4 Wheeler from a residence on Birch Road in Elliot Lake.

The missing 4 wheeler is described as follows:

  • F-10
  • Black
  • International Fire Fighter’s Decal on back seat
  • CAA decal on the back
  • Two rear tires have rubber on top of plastic wheels
  • Two front tires are worn out

Police are requesting the assistance of the public in locating this reported missing 4 wheeler as there is one sad little boy on Birch Road.

UPDATE TO MISSING ELDERLY MALE

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on today’s date, the missing male, Mervyn Powers was located.

The OPP would like to thank the public for their assistance. 

No further information will be released at this time.

Earlier release:

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The OPP is currently looking for a missing person from the Elliot Lake area.

Family and friends report that on September 3rd, 2013 at approximately 9:30 a.m. family noticed that 75 year old Mervyn Powers of Axmith Avenue in Elliot Lake had left the residence without advising anyone.  Family and friends became concerned as Mr. Powers did not return home and attended the OPP detachment at 3:15 p.m. to file a missing person report.  

Police and family are concerned as Mr. Powers is of failing health, has difficulty walking and generally never goes anywhere alone.

Mervyn Powers is described a 6’ tall, approximately 178 pounds (thin) with gray short hair.  He was last seen wearing blue jogging pants, plaid black/green jacket, black running shoes and possibly wearing a ball cap.  Mr. Powers may be driving a black 2009 Ford F150, with silver running boards, Ontario marker AE13451.
