Murder investigation launched after woman found dead in Sault Michigan

Male taken into police custody after 27-year-old found dead Tuesday evening

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a 27-year-old woman was murdered in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Tuesday evening. 

Chippewa County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from the residence at 810 Minneapolis St. shortly before 10 p.m. reporting that a female and male subject there had both been cut. The female, identified as Hayley Anne Smith of Sault Michigan, was found deceased. 

Police located the male subject a couple blocks away and transported him to the War Memorial Hospital to be treated for a severe laceration to one of his arms. 

The male remains in police custody. 

Sault Ste. Marie Police Department says the homicide investigation is ongoing.
