Sault Search and Rescue (SSAR), an important volunteer organization in Sault Ste. Marie recently received an $11,000 donation from Lafarge Canada. The funds will support critical upgrades to essential equipment, ensuring SSAR is well-prepared to respond to emergencies in the coming seasons.
"We're committed to investing in the communities where our business operates," says Jayson Hill, General Manager, Northern Ontario Ready Mix, Lafarge Canada (East). "The Sault Ste. Marie Plant has been a long-standing partner in the community, and this donation reflects our dedication to supporting organizations like SSAR that make a real difference locally."
About Sault Search and Rescue
Since 1958, SSAR has been a vital resource in the Sault Ste. Marie region, conducting life-saving land, marine, and air search and rescue missions. Operated entirely by volunteers, the organization relies exclusively on local donations to maintain its operations and readiness.
The dedication of SSAR’s team has earned them a reputation for rapid response and expertise, which has made a life-saving difference for countless individuals over the years.
“The timing couldn’t have been better,” shared Dennis O’Reilly, President & Coordinator of SSAR. “Thanks to Lafarge Canada, we were able to purchase a new trailer for hauling ATVs, snow machines, and a Rescue Boggan during the winter season. Our previous trailer was too low, limiting our ability to reach remote areas where we are often needed.”
A Shared Commitment to Safety
“SSAR plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of our community,” said Dean MacDonald, Plant Manager at Lafarge Canada’s Sault Ste. Marie plant. “Their dedication and expertise are unmatched, and we’re proud to support their life-saving efforts.”
Lafarge’s Impact on the Community
Lafarge Canada’s ongoing support of local initiatives highlights the importance of collaboration between businesses and community organizations. This donation is part of its ongoing commitment to the communities it serves. Through its Community Investment Program, established in 2013, Lafarge supports local initiatives with financial contributions, in-kind donations, and employee volunteer efforts.
By investing in SSAR’s future, Lafarge Canada is helping to enhance safety and ensure the region remains prepared for any emergency.
