Fire Marshal to investigate morning house fire (video)

The house suffered heavy damage

The investigation into a serious house fire this morning on Anita Boulevard has been turned over to the Office of the Fire Marshal.

One person was taken to hospital with unknown injuries after being helped from the burning home by firefighters this morning, said Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services Deputy Chief Paul Milosevich.

A neighbour's call to 9-1-1 at 7:30 a.m. was the first of several reporting the fire at 11 Anita Boulevard, said Milosevich.

Significant damage to the structure was readily apparent. Milosevich said the building suffered structural damage and heavy smoke damage. A garage portion of the building was also heavily damaged.

The fire sent a thick cloud of brown smoke into the air.

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services is unable to comment on the investigation into the fire. The Fire Marshal's office is expected to have representatives at the scene this afternoon, and the fire scene is currently being secured.
