At this time of year, Spruce Haven Zoo looks more like a sanctuary than a typical "zoo" The natural surroundings add a peaceful and calm demeanor for the many creatures there that have made it home , some for 26 years.
Earlier this year Spruce Haven on Third Line became a target for investigation for the OSPCA stemming from complaints from an animal activist website, ZooCheck Canada.
Helen Marshall , owner of Spruce Haven told Local2.ca that she's tired of being bullied by Rob Laidlaw, who manages ZooCheck Canada and from the OSPCA.
A hearing was recently delayed dealing with orders placed on the local Zoo and Marshall is frustrated by the process that has negatively affected her reputation.
