VIDEO: Girls hit The Home Depot to learn all about trades

Several female students from four Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools made their way to the Sault Ste. Marie Home Depot today to take part in Home Depot Workshops

Forty students from four Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools made their way to the Sault Ste. Marie Home Depot today to take part in Home Depot Workshops.

The purpose of these workshops is to provide students with the opportunity to explore various building trades and enable female students to learn about rewarding careers in this sector of the economy. Statistics reveal that women are under-represented in the construction, industrial, service, as well as the motive power sector. By participating in this type of activity, the CSCNO is seeking to raise the level of girls’ confidence while initiating them to non-traditional careers.

Schools participating included École Secondaire Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River), École Secondaire Catholique Trillium (Chapleau), École Secondaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa) and École Secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie).
