Welcome back, Jack!

Jack’s Chicken and Fish, at its new location, is the subject of this week’s Mid-Week Mugging

In Sault Ste. Marie, a community with seemingly countless restaurants which sell burgers and pizza (not that there’s anything wrong with that!), there is good news for local fish lovers who seek a place at which to sink their teeth into a good helping of fish and chips.

Jack’s Chicken and Fish, formerly located among the many eateries and businesses at Frontier Village, is back in a new, stand alone location at 1340 Great Northern Rd.

Jack’s staff proudly declare they serve ‘The Best Fish and Chips in Town.’

“The haddock and cod comes straight from the ocean and the pickerel we get locally… it’s our seasoning. It’s all in the batter, it just all comes together and makes for really great fish,” said staff member Michael Bogensberger, speaking to SooToday as he and coworker Bianca Lepore accepted a pair of complimentary SooToday coffee mugs.

In fact, Michael said a visiting East Coast couple told the staff they enjoyed the fish at Jack’s even more than the fish served in their own region.

“We like to make people happy with our food,” Michael said.

Jack’s also serves wings, hot dogs, wedges, burgers, chicken fingers, ravioli, poutine, sausage, broasted chicken and shrimp.

Jack’s, in business for several years at Frontier Village, closed their location at that site March 31, and after a long wait for spring, reopened at its new location three weeks ago.

“It’s nice to be in our own little area. People like it. They enjoy the nice outdoor sitting area we have. It’s going well so far. It’s been busy, very busy, especially on Fridays (a special day for fish lovers),” Michael smiled.

Owned by Nancy Bogensberger, Jack’s has six employees, including Michael and Bianca and Horst Bogensberger, a retired teacher who helps out on a part time basis.

Jack’s also offers delivery and takeout as well as their eat in tables.

Customers can also avoid lineups and call ahead at 705-945-7952.
