Youth Charged with Break and Enter
Last evening a 16-year old youth was arrested after they tried to sell stolen sports cards to a local business. The business owner contacted the police who attended and arrested the youth. The cards were stolen from a break and enter on Village Court on the 1st of December. A query of the accused revealed the youth was on probation at the time of the offence. The youth has been charged with one count of breach of probation, one count of break and enter, and one count of possession of stolen property. The youth will appear in bail court this morning.
Male Charged with Three Counts of Assault
A 47-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested yesterday afternoon in relation to a domestic related incident. The accused has been charged with a number of offences that occurred between the 1st of March and the 1st of December. Incidents between the assaulted and his ex-girlfriend included assaults, repeatedly following the victim and threatening to kill the victim. The accused has been charged with 3 counts of assault, one court of threatening to cause death or bodily harm, and 3 counts of criminal harassment.
Impaired Driving
Shortly before 7 pm last evening 55-year old Terrance Jolicoeur caught the attention of Patrol Officers by driving over a median in the area of Cathcart Street and Andrew Street. When the driver exited the vehicle to speak to the officers it was apparent the male had been drinking. Mr. Jolicoeur was charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of impaired driving. He will appear in court on January 10th.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Yesterday morning shortly before 9 am City Police attended at the intersection of Shannon Road and Wellington Street East for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A van being operated by Tracy-Lynn Broadbent of 55 East Champagne was traveling eastbound on Wellington Street East when she turned in left onto Shannon Road on the green light. A van being operated by 48-year old Frank Vena of 91 Parkshore Drive was traveling westbound on Wellington Street East and was heading through the intersection on the green light when he struck the Broadbent van that had turned in front of him. The Broadbent van the swung around and struck a pickup truck that was stopped on Shannon Road at Wellington St for the red light. The driver of the pickup truck was 71-year old Joseph Jarrell of Echo Bay. Ms Broadbent and her 6 year old passenger took themselves to the hospital for treatment on non–life threatening injuries. A passenger in the Vena vehicle received non-life threatening injuries but did not require medical treatment at the time. Damage to the vehicles is described as light to moderate. Tracy-Lynn Broadbent has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision.
In the last 24 hour period City Police responded to 18 motor vehicle collisions. Road conditions played a role in a number of those accidents.
This morning officers from the Investigation Services Section of the City Police executed a search warrant at 63 Walnut Street in the early morning hours which resulted in the arrest of 5 persons and a quantity of stolen property being seized. Items recovered include collector sports cards, electronic equipment, clothing, a .410 shotgun, a 12 gauge shotgun, a .22 calibre rifle as well as ammunition. The .410 and the 12 gauge were sawed off making them prohibited weapons. None of the weapons or ammunition were stored properly. None of the accused persons had licences to possess any of the firearms. Some of the property recovered has been traced back to break and enters to a Village Court residence on December 1st, as well as a number of break and enters to cottages on Vixon Lake from the fall. In addition to the stolen property officers also seized a quantity of codeine tablets, morphine capsules and 2.5 grams of cocaine as well as weigh scales and drug paraphernalia. The street value of the narcotics seized is approximately $3,400. All 5 persons will be remanded to bail court on Monday. Listed below are the persons involved and their charges:
1) 44- year old Michael Harris of 63 Walnut Street has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, 4 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 3 counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, 3 counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, 4 counts of contravention of storage regulations, and one count of possession of firearm knowing possession unauthorized.
2) 19-year old Jeffery Godson-Roy of 17-314 Albert Street East has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, 4 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 3 counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, 3 counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, 4 counts of contravention of storage regulations, and one count of possession of firearm knowing possession unauthorized.
3) A 17 year old youth has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, 4 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 3 counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, 3 counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, 4 counts of contravention of storage regulations, and one count of possession of firearm knowing possession unauthorized.
4) A 16-year old youth has been charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, 4 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 3 counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, 3 counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, 4 counts of contravention of storage regulations, one count of possession of firearm knowing possession unauthorized as well as one count of breach of probation.
5) 18-year old Ryan Harris of 63 Walnut Street has been charged with 3 counts of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, 4 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, 3 counts of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, 3 counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, 4 counts of contravention of storage regulations, 3 counts of possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, as well as one count of possession contrary to order, fail to surrender documents.
