SHOPLIFTER FOILED
Yesterday at approximately 5:00 pm at Pantorama, located in the Station Mall, the accused, a 16-year-old female went into a change room and rolled up a pair of jeans and placed them in her purse and committed the offence of attempt theft.

The value of the jeans was $79.99. Store management caught the accused when they noticed a pair missing and she was apprehended. Police were called and she was arrested and charged with attempt theft. She will appear in court in late March.


MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSUALTING GIRLFRIEND
Yesterday, at approximately 1:00 pm, the accused, a 21-year-old male grabbed a dog chain and began to choke his 23-year-old girlfriend with it at their apartment on Lewis Road.

The accused then choked the victim with both hands, slapped her in the face and kicked her twice in the right leg. He then left the residence and the victim contacted police.

As a result, at 11:40 pm, patrol officers arrested and charged him with assault and assault with a weapon. He will appear in court on March 24th.


ARRESTED FOR FIRING RIFLE IN DRIVEWAY
Early today at 1:10 am, the accused, Jamie Gilmar, age 20 of 95 Second Line West, removed his rifle from his residence and went out onto his driveway.

Once there, he discharged the firearm into the air. Police responded to the gunshot complaint and at 1:20 am arrested and charged Gilmar with Careless Use of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm for a Dangerous Purpose. No one was injured in the incident. He will appear in court March 31st.


BREAK & ENTERS
Police were kept busy investigating 5 break and enters yesterday. At 8:11 am, officers responded to a break and enter at the Professional Place at 211 Queen St. East. At 8:40 am yesterday Officers were called to the Capri Beauty Salon on Gore Street for a break-in.

At 11:59 am, officers went to a home on Tancred Street where a garage was entered but nothing was reported missing. At 4:30 pm, patrol officers were called to a residence to investigate a break and enter.

This investigation revealed that sometime between 9:45pm and 3:00am, between February 19 and February 20, person(s) unknown broke into the residence in the 200 block of Eastern Avenue. The rear inner door was forced causing the doorjamb to let go at the lock side and the trim to break away.

Once inside the intruder(s) removed a Sony mini-disk system, black in colour with two normal speakers and three other speakers, 5 in total, from the living room.

Also missing from the bedroom was a Dell Dimension 2350 desktop computer with Harmonkardon speakers with subwoofers in them, a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse and monitor. Also, taken were a white gold tennis bracelet and a pair of diamond solitaire earrings and a quantity of cash in bills and over $50.00 in toonies and loonies.

At 9:38 pm, officers were called to a home in the 900 block of Fourth Line East where a shed was entered and thieves made off with an outboard motor, a chainsaw, a generator and other items.

Thieves did not limit themselves to buildings yesterday. At 10:00 am, police received a complaint from a male that lives in the 300 block of Albert Street East that sometime after 3am last night his vehicle, which was parked at the rear of his residence, had been entered. The vehicle had the driver's side window smashed.

It appeared that attempts had been made to pry the window, as there were numerous gouge marks around it. Investigation revealed that the only item taken from the vehicle was a half a carton of cigarettes.

The complainant turned over to police a tire iron and an adjustable wrench that were not his and that he had found beneath his vehicle. Anyone with information on this mischief is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime stoppers.


MORE COUNTERFEIT MONEY
Detectives were also kept busy yesterday responding to several complaints from businesses receiving counterfeit money. The counterfeit Canadian money was found in currency ranging from $10.00 through $100.00 bills. If you have information on these incidents, you are asked to contact the Sault Ste.
