Male Charged with Breach of Probation

A 37-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after turning himself into City Police last night. It is alleged that on the 1st of January the accused contacted his ex-girlfriend while on probation not to communicate with the female. The conditions stemmed from a domestic related matter. The accused also had a condition to keep the peace and be good. The male has been charged with 2 counts of breach of probation.

Break and Enter

One break and enter was reported in the last 24 hours. A home in the 100 block of John Street was entered last evening however nothing was taken.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to like to take this opportunity to remind citizens that they can make a difference in reducing stolen vehicles by simply remembering not to leave their vehicles unattended while warming up.

In the winter months, people have a tendency to leave their vehicles running unattended while they wait somewhere warm. By leaving the key in the ignition and the vehicle running, people take the unnecessary and much avoidable risk of losing valuable items from their vehicles and having them stolen. Thieves see a running vehicle as an easy target. Even if the vehicle were locked, a thief would be motivated to gain entry by picking the lock or breaking the window. This would result in more damage to your vehicle and increased insurance premiums. Some insurance companies may not pay for any damage that occurs to your vehicle is you made it easy for a thief to steal it.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service wants to remind citizens to be diligent in not leaving vehicles running unattended as this will assist in deterring thieves. Working together, we can reduce this crime.
