Yesterday after school a young male was taking his family pet for a walk near Parkland School when an older male with gray hair began taking pictures of him. The youth did not know the male and immediately left the area unharmed.

Police were contacted and checked the area for the older male but could not locate him. It is believed that he was driving a gray or green pick up truck. Anyone with information on this incident or observing suspicious activity in and around schools or school age children is asked to immediately contact the Police Service at 949-6300. This incident is very similar to another picture taking complaint please see the following.

(From January 10th news release) Yesterday at approx. 4:00 PM the Sault Ste Marie Police Service received a call of a suspicious male. It was reported that he was driving by two young girls when he stopped his car, got out and took two photos of the girls before driving off. The incident took place on South Market Street near Chambers Ave. The two girls did not know him. He is described as a male Caucasian in his 60?s, with salt and pepper coloured hair and was wearing a brown jacket. Anyone with information about the male or the vehicle is asked to call the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Investigative Unit.)


YOUTH ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING FAMILY MEMBER
Yesterday at approximately 08:15 am, a 15-year-old male, entered his mother's van to get a ride to school. The youth retrieved a metal piece of flat bar from his packsack and attempted to strike another family member with it. The intended victim moved to avoid getting struck. The youth?s mother was able to throw the metal bar away before anyone was injured.

Patrol officers went to the youth's school at 11:10 am and arrested and charged the young offender with assault with a weapon and breach of probation. He is scheduled for bail court.


ACCIDENT SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL
At 1:06 pm yesterday afternoon, patrol officers investigated a motor vehicle collision that occurred at Second Line and Farewell Terrace. Teresa Pozzebon, age 72 of 11 Avon Ave, was driving a 1989 Toyota car eastbound on Second Line West when it began a left turn onto Farewell Terrace.

The Pozzebon car turned into the path of a westbound 1998 Nissan pick up being driven by Robert Schneider, age 34 of 715 Korah Rd. Pozzebon received minor injuries in the collision and was transported to hospital by ambulance. Both vehicles sustained severe damage. Pozzebon was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Left Turn-Fail to Afford Reasonable Opportunity to Avoid Collision.

TWO YOUTHS ASSAULTED ON SECOND LINE
Yesterday at approximately 10:00 pm two unknown males accosted a 17-year-old male and his friend. another 17-year-old male on Second Line West near Cooper Street. The unknown males were driving an older model light blue mini van and stopped to talk with the youths who were walking home.

The male driver of the van accused the youths of throwing snow at his vehicle. The unknown driver of the mini van struck both victims by punching them. One of the youths received minor facial injuries in the mouth area and to the upper right cheek. The driver left the scene and Police were contacted. An investigation in the assault was commenced. STOLEN SNOWMOBILE
Patrol officers yesterday commenced an investigation into the theft of a snow machine. Yesterday, between noon and 4:00 pm an unknown person or persons went to Currie Brothers on lake Street and entered the property.

Thieves proceeded to steal a 2003 Ski Doo, 800 CC, black in colour with an orange hood. Registration number 926429. The value of the snow machine is approximately $10,000.00. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crime to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crimestoppers.


CHARDED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING
Today, at 2:40 am, Daniel Thibideau, age 36 of 386 Borden Avenue was driving his 1989 Chevrolet west on Second Line in the curb lane. Thibideau veered to his left and struck the side of a 1990 Chevrolet car that was also westbound on Second Line but in the travel lane.

The car was being driven by Chris Gilmar, age 22 of 561 Sherbourne Street. Patrol officers were called to the scene and arrested and charged Thibideau with Impaired Driving and Driving over .08. He will appear in court March 3rd. The vehicles sustained minor damage in the collision and no injuries were reported. In total the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions in the city.
