Gun incident at west end school
Yesterday, March 25 at 12:30pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was called to a Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board Elementary School located in the west end regarding a student with a gun.
A number of students were in the library and one of them allegedly pulled out a gun and showed it to them and then began pointing it at other students.
The gun was seized by the Principal and police were called.
No ammunition was seized with the gun.As a result, charges were laid against a 14-year-old male for possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace section and threatening.
An additional 14-year-old male was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon section. Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear in court April 27 at 9:30 a.m.
The investigation is continuing.
DARING DAYLIGHT ROBBERY
At approximately 11:39 a.m. yesterday, two males entered the Sault This Week Office and stole a purse from one of the employees. The suspects then fled the building running towards the old Sacred Heart School on Wellington St.E. The suspects are described as:
1. Male Native Canadian, 6’ tall wearing a two-tone blue jacket and blue jeans.
2. Male, brush-cut hair, shorted than the first suspect. Wearing grey clothing.
If you were in the area of #2 Tower Street yesterday morning at about that time and saw anything to do with this incident, you are asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Criminal Investigative Unit.
DRUGS FOR SEX
At 7:11 yesterday evening, City Police arrested 44-year-old Luigi Scarpino and charged him with: 3 counts of Trafficking in a drug, 3 counts of Procuring and one count of Obstructing Police. It is alleged that between March 1st and March 24th, 2004 the accused allegedly offered drugs to three persons, under the age of eighteen, in exchange for sexual acts. The accused then told the victims to fabricate a story in an attempt to stop the police investigation. Mr. Scarpino will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 a.m.
THEFT FROM VEHICLES
Police are investigating two incidents that took place in the east end. A theft from a vehicle was reported in 100 block of Chartwell Avenue and a mischief to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of Cambridge Place. In the mischief incident, culprits discharged a fire extinguisher into a vehicle.
Early yesterday morning the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was called to Sleepy’s Mattress World in regards to thefts from the trucks. It appears that culprits broke into several of the company’s trucks and stole some of the contents. The incident took place in the parking lot of 154 Great Northern Road. If you saw any suspicious persons in the area, you are asked to contact the city police.
