Police were busy yesterday assisting emotionally disturbed persons. Shortly after 1:00 p.m., officers went to and east end address to execute a Form One order for assessment of a 44-year-old male that was acting violently toward others.

The Form One had been signed by a physician and ordered police to apprehend the individual under the Mental Health Act and take him to hospital for assessment. At 1:05p.m, he was apprehended and taken to the Sault Area Hospital without incident.

At 7:04 p.m., police apprehended a 53-year-old male at a Bush Street residence under authority of the Mental Health Act. He was apparently suffering from a mental disorder, as he was incoherent and extremely agitated.

He lives with his 76-year-old stepfather who was unable to control him as he kept leaving his residence to yell at the neighbours. Officers had concerns for the well being of the man and the safety of the public. He was transported to the Sault Area Hospital where he was admitted for an assessment.


BRAZEN DAYTIME THEFT
Yesterday, police officers were called to a business office at 369 Queen Street East where a male had entered the office suite and stole a wallet from the purse of a female employee.

The identity of the thief is unknown but he is described as being 5 feet 6 inches in height, 140 pounds, dark brown hair in a mullet style haircut but not very long, wearing a yellow baseball cap and about 15 years of age.

The victim reported that her black leather wallet had a small amount of cash in bills and a few dollars in change along with her driver?s licence, health card, social insurance number, TD bank card, CIBC Visa Card, Sears Card and her boyfriend's CIBC card.

The theft occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. yesterday. If you have any information, you are asked to call city police at 949-6300 or call Crime Stoppers.


DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED
At 12:35 this morning, patrol officers were conducting a radar speed enforcement on Lyons Avenue when they clocked a vehicle doing over 90 in a 60 km/h zone.

The speeding vehicle, a 1989 Chevrolet car was stopped at Third Avenue at Wallace Terrace. Police noted that the driver exhibited signs of alcohol impairment that included slurred speech, difficulty with coordination and balance, and a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.

The driver, Brian Mills, age 36 of 244 Letcher Street was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving over .08. He will appear in court on June 9.
