ARRESTED AT NOISY PARTY
A 17-year-old youth will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested by city police shortly before 2:00 this morning. Police had gone to a west-end residence for a noisy party complaint.
Upon police arrival the party had been shut down, but officers queried one of the persons leaving the party who was intoxicated. It was learned the youth was also on a release document with conditions including a curfew to be in the family residence between 11 pm and 6 am, and not to consume alcohol. The youth has been charged with two counts of breaching the release document.
BREACH OF PROBATION
21-year old Derek Spilman of 222 Albert Street East will also be appearing in bail court this morning. Shortly before 3 am officers checked Mr. Spilman as he was walking along in the downtown area.
Mr. Spilman had been consuming alcohol and a query of the accused revealed he was on probation with conditions not to consume alcohol. It was also learned that Mr. Spilman was wanted for failing to report once a week to the City Police as part of a court release document.
The accused has been charged with one count of breach of probation and one count of breach of a release document.
TWO IMPAIRED CHARGES
Last night two persons were taken into custody on 2 separate reports of impaired driving: Shortly before 11:00 last night city police were called to the 1200 block of Trunk Road after receiving a report of a truck going up over the curb and onto the grass in that area.
Officers located the truck in a parking lot in that block and found the driver passed out behind the wheel. Gregory Bernard Belleau, age 28 of Garden River has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on October 25th.
In a second, unrelated incident around 2:30 this morning, city police were looking in the area of Tancred Street for a possible impaired driver after a citizen called the police. When the police first spotted the car traveling southbound on Tancred Street, officers noted the driver’s door was ajar and that the driver’s foot was hanging out of the vehicle.
When the officers stopped the car, the driver got out and walked back to the cruiser. It was noted by the officers that the accused was unsteady on his feet and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. A police check revealed the accused was on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good, refrain from consuming alcohol as well as having a curfew.
Darrell Vincent Saunders, age 22, of side apartment 227 Alexandra Street will appear in bail court this morning. He has been charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit, and 3 counts of breach of probation.
CAUGHT STEALING BATTERIES
Shortly after 3 pm yesterday store security staff at the Zellers Store in the Station Mall apprehended a 17-year-old youth for stealing batteries.
The youth was also on a probation order to keep the peace and be good. The youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. The youth will appear in court on October 26th.
CHARGED WITH SEX CRIMES
As reported on SooToday.com yesterday, officers from the Investigation Services Section arrested a 43-year old male after investigating a sexual assault complaint. It is alleged that the accused sexually assaulted a young child over a 2-year period between 2002 and 2004.
The male has been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference. The name of the accused is not being released, as it will identify the victim. The accused will appear in court on October 25th.
BREAK & ENTERS
City police received 3 reports of break and enters yesterday.
Thieves attempted to get into Ernie’s Coffee Shop at 13 Queen Street East but were unsuccessful.
Thieves were able to force their way into Action Lube at 142 Great Northern Road and made off with a small, undisclosed amount of money.
Thieves also forced their way into a home in the 100 block of Summit Avenue where some collector’s coins were taken. It is believed more property may have been taken as all the rooms in the home were gone through, but the homeowners are still complying their property list for the police.
