CHARGE WITH BREACH OF RELEASE
Officers observed 40-year-old James Laplante of Mile 67 Road, walking in the downtown area yesterday. When queried it was learned Mr. Laplante was on a bail with conditions not to enter the City of Sault Ste Marie except for court purposes.

It was confirmed that the accused did not have a court appearance yesterday and was subsequently charged with one count of breach of a release document.


ATTACK WITH KNIFE
Shortly after 8:00 yesterday morning, a 15-year-old youth assaulted another youth at an east end residence. The victim then locked himself in a room and the accused rammed a kitchen chair against the door to the room and was able to open the door. The youth then grabbed a butter knife and threatened to kill the victim.

Police were called and the youth was arrested on a number of offences. The accused was on 2 probation orders at the time of the incident. The youth has been charged with two counts of breach of probation, one count of assault, one count of mischief and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm.


YOUTH ASSAULTED
A 15-year-old youth was arrested yesterday morning after assaulting another youth by punching and kicking the victim. The victim received minor injuries. At the time of this offence, the accused was also on 2 probation orders with terms to keep the peace. The youth has been charged with one count of assault and 2 counts of breach of probation.


BROKE RELEASE CONDITIONS
27-year old Richard Speers of 121 Crawford Avenue was arrested yesterday afternoon after officers executed an arrest warrant. It is alleged that Mr. Speers failed to report weekly to the police station between the 15th of July and the 17th of September, which had been a condition of his release from custody. Mr. Speers has been charged with one count of breaching a release order.


BREAK & ENTERS
City Police received 3 reports of residential break and enters yesterday.

A home in the 2000 block of Base Line was entered and the bedrooms were ransacked. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

A home in the 1000 block of Base Line was also entered and jewellery was taken.

Jewellery was also taken from a home in the 100 block of Parkewood Drive.

POWER TOOLS STOLEN
Thieves also broke into a trailer situated parked on Millwood Drive. Thieves forced their way into the trailer and made off with a quantity of power tools.

Items taken include 2 Dewalt circular saws, contractor model, yellow and black in colour; 2 Dewalt 3/8” keyless chuck drills; 1 Dewalt screw gun; 1 King sliding compound 10” miter saw and one builder’s level with case, make David White. All of the items taken have ADSB written on them in permanent marker.


BUCKLE UP
Please remember that the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Traffic Section will be starting a seat belt enforcement program this weekend. Although Sault Ste. Marie residents have a high compliance with this law there are still a high number of injuries reported yearly from failure to wear the seatbelts.
