YOUTH CHARGED WITH BREACH OF PROBATION
On Monday March 24 at 11:55 pm, police officers went to a Blucher Street residence for a curfew check for the accused, a 17-year-old male. At the time, they spoke with the mother of the youth and she advised that he was not home.

A summons has been requested for breach for probation for the accused. On Sunday the 6th of April at 2:15 pm the accused, while at the District Jail was notified by police that he was being charged with Breach of Probation by missing his curfew on the 24th of March 2003. The accused will appear in bail court today.


TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
On Saturday, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was called to investigate 12 motor vehicle collisions. Most were of a minor nature. However at 2:06 pm on Saturday, police were called to a 3-car motor vehicle collision on Trunk Road near Fournier Road.

A 2000 Ford truck was going west on Trunk Road in the westbound travel lane when it lost control in the slush, crossed two lanes of traffic and collided with an eastbound Pontiac sedan.

The Ford truck was being driven by Carolyn Sewell, age 24 of 2-41 Great Northern Road. The 1997 Pontiac was going east in the eastbound travel lane when the Ford pick up struck it.

The Pontiac was being driven by Vivian Gastaldo, age 51 of Pumpkin Point Road. The Pontiac came to rest facing south in the south snow bank after the collision.

The Ford truck rotated counter-clock wise in the eastbound lanes and struck another eastbound car. This car, a 1989 Ford Tempo was being driven eastbound by Jason Brent, age 28 of 11247 Portage Road, Portage, Michigan.

The Ford truck came to rest facing west in the eastbound lanes and the Ford car came to rest facing east in the south snow bank. All three drivers and a 24-year-old female passenger in the Ford Tempo, Melissa Parr of 206 Whitebirch Drive, Garden River were transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene and both the Ford truck and the Pontiac received severe damage in the collision. The Ford car was demolished in the crash. No charges have been laid in the incident.


POLICE OFFICER STRUCK BY CAR
Yesterday, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was called to investigate 6 motor vehicle collisions. Most were of a minor nature. However at 7:25 pm on Sunday, April 6th Police Officers were called to investigate a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Cathcart and John Streets.

Officers parked their police cruiser on Cathcart Street and activated its emergency lights. One of the officers investigating the first collision, returned to the rear of the police cruiser to retrieve a piece of equipment from its trunk.

As he was accessing the trunk a car rear-ended the parked cruiser and also struck him. The car involved in the collision with the Police Officer was a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier being operated Thomas Herbert, age 21 of 105-135 Cambridge Place.

Herbert was traveling south bound on John Street and was turning westbound on Cathcart Street, when it rear ended the police cruiser which was parked facing west on Cathcart Street.

The 29-year-old police officer received an injury to his left leg, which did not require medical attention. Damage was minimal in the collision. Herbert has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Careless Driving.


BREAK AND ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is currently investigating several break-ins that occurred over the weekend. Shortly before 9:00 am on Saturday, April 5th, police were advised of a break and enter to two businesses at 640 Queen Street East.

Thieves are believed to have broken into Continental Hair Stylists and the Girl Guides of Canada Office located at this address.

On Saturday at 11:24 pm, police were called to Crazee Wear at 125 Bruce Street for a break and enter. It appears thieves broke a window to gain entrance to the business. On Saturday, April 5th, shortly after 3:00 pm, police were called to Sault College's Auto Shop area where thieves had entered a classroom and stole a computer.

Police officers were again called to Sault College last evening for a break-in to one its rooms. Officers attended at the school on Northern Avenue shortly before 10:00 pm to investigate this break in.
