The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is investigating two Break and Enters from over the weekend. The first, of the New Year, occurred on Jan 2nd at the Canadian Bearings Stop at 285 Wilson St. The second Break –in took place at the “Trade Zone” located at 237 Bruce St. on Jan 3rd. In this incident the culprits broke several doors and window to gain access to the building. It is not known what was taken at either break-in at this time.

MISCHIEF REPORTS

Other incidents over the weekend were two reports of mischief. One was to a bus shelter near # 770 Great Northern Rd. where unknown persons broke several windows. The other was to a business located at 20 Queen St.E. The business had its front window broken.

IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

On Sat. Jan 3rd at approx. 12:20 AM City Police were called to the Canadian in regards to a motor vehicle accident. Upon the arrival of the police one of the drivers involved fled on foot. Police stopped this person and later arrested him for Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 mgs and Drive While Disqualified. The driver, Gary Chad Barkley, 32 , of 369 Bruce St. will be appearing in court on Feb 9th at 9:00 AM on the charges.

On Sun. Jan. 4th at approx. 12:25 AM City Police arrested a Toronto man after he failed a roadside screening device test. It is alleged that Shane Kyle Banting, 31 , of 6 Humberline Dr. Etobicoke, was operating his vehicle, on Gore St., while under the influence of alcohol. He will be appearing in court on Feb 4th at 9:00 AM.

LOOSE CABOOSE

Yesterday afternoon the City Police were called to attend in front of the Moose Lodge on Trunk Rd. in regards to a naked male person running along the railway tracks. Police located a confused and disoriented male. He was subsequently arrested under the Mental Health Act and taken to the Riverview Centre.
