ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO GAIN ENTRY TO HOME
Yesterday at approximately 5:50 am, Donald Larente, age 20 of 21 Salisbury Avenue went to a home in the 0 to 100 block of Wellington Street West.
In an attempt to speak with the residents of the home, the accused banged on the front porch door and when he found it locked, allegedly smashed out the porch window, cutting his hand. The accused then entered the porch and began banging on the house door.
Patrol officers were advised of the disturbance and went to the residence. At 6:11 am they arrested and charged the accused with Break and Enter. He will appear in court on August 18th.
ARRESTED WITH TEN INCH KNIFE
Yesterday at 2:55 pm, patrol officers were called to a residence in the 300 block of Albert Street East for a disturbance. Upon their arrival officers found the accused, Bruce Sackanay, age 25 of 137 East Street, was breaching his undertaking by not abstaining from alcohol.
When the accused was advised he was under arrest he became resistant to the officer's efforts and kicked over a kitchen table. During the arrest, officers observed and seized a 10" knife that was concealed between the legs of the accused. He was subsequently arrested without incident.
He has been charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with an Undertaking, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Obstructing/Resisting a Police Officer. He will appear in bail court today.
ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING
Yesterday at 6:18 pm, the accused, Jason Mark, age 23 of no fixed address, allegedly hid some food under his sweater and left Rome's Grocer's at 44 Great Northern Road without paying for it. He was stopped outside by security and turned over to patrol officers.
Police officers learned that the accused is now on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good, along with maintaining a current address on file with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. He has been charged with Theft under $5,000.00 and Breach of Probation. He will appear in bail court today.
CAUGHT WITH STOLEN PROPERTY
Yesterday at 9:50 pm. patrol officers checked a male riding a bicycle on St. Georges Avenue near John Street.
The male, Gray Latvanen, age 30 of 171B Willow Avenue, was found to be carrying a gym bag with a lap top computer and a multi media projector in it. Checks by the officers revealed the items had been stolen from Sault College in the spring of this year.
Police seized the items and arrested and charged Latvanen with Possession of Stolen Property. He will appear in court on August 18th.
BREAK & ENTERS
Yesterday the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated several break and enters. At 9:30 am patrol officers investigated a break-in to the garage of a private residence in the 400 block of McNabb Street where thieves stole some tools.
At 9:45 am, police were advised of a break-in at Roy Daynard Accounting at 59 Albert Street East. Officers learned that a small quantity of cash was taken.
At 5:00 pm a homeowner on Biggings Avenue reported that his home had been entered and thieves removed several VCR and DVD players, DVDs and CDs, along with a computer hard drive and a large jar with change (coins) in it.
At 7:13 pm a homeowner on East Balfour Street came home to find thieves had entered his residence. The owner advised police that thieves had stolen his barbeque.
At 9:35 pm a homeowner in the 200 block of John Street reported that a thief had broken into his house and removed a silver Compaq Presario laptop computer.
