CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER
Early Saturday morning, just after midnight, the accused, a 16-year-old male from the city's east end became involved in an altercation with a 19-year-old male, also from the east end.
As the altercation progressed, the accused stabbed the victim several times in the torso and leg areas. The victim was transported to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment.
Patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with attempted murder. The investigation is continuing. The youth is expected in bail court today.
TWO ARRESTED FOR BREACHES OF PROBATION
Yesterday at approximately 4:45 am, patrol officers responded to a disturbance at a home on Paladin Drive. During the course of the investigation, police questioned one male as to his identity.
The male identified himself verbally with a false name and an address in Blind River. Suspicious of this identity, police requested further identification when the accused ran away from them.
After a short foot pursuit police arrested the male. After his arrest the male was identified as Hugh Thomas Tait, age 20 of 117 Greenview Lane.
Officers learned that the accused was bound by a recognizance with a specific condition of stay away from Stephan Humes. The accused was in the company of Stephan Humes prior to running from the Police. Further, the accused was on probation with the condition to keep the peace and be good and to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.
When arrested, the accused had been drinking. The accused was also on a curfew from 11pm to 8am. Tait has been charged with Obstructing Police, Escaping Lawful Custody, three counts of Fail to Comply with a Recognizance and one count of Breach of Probation.
At approximately 5:00 am, the other accused, Stephan Humes, age 20 of 96 Smale Ave. was arrested by patrol officers for breaching his recognizance by associating with Tait. He was charged accordingly. He was also found to be on a probation order and was charged with failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. Both accused will appear in bail court today.
ARRESTED & CHARGE WITH SHOPLIFTING
Yesterday at approximately 3:29 pm, the accused, Terry Jackson, age 42 of 211 Pine Street was in Sears at the Station Mall. The accused allegedly concealed two black Roots wallets in his pants pockets and a silver Precision watch in his backpack.
The accused departed Sears via the mall entrance. He was stopped by Sears security and at 4:05 pm. Patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Theft under $5,000.00. He will appear in court on July 21st.
FAILED TO APPEAR FOR DRUG CHARGE
Yesterday at 7:22 pm, patrol officers checked a male identified as Robert Barnes, age 42 of 588 Albert Street West, Apt. 405. A police records check revealed outstanding arrest warrants for Barnes. Officers arrested and charged him with Failing to Appear and Possession of a Controlled Drug stemming from an incident in December 2002.
(Exert from the December 18th, 2002 release) ?Officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit were busy yesterday. At 3:55 pm yesterday, Robert Barnes, age 41 of 51 Eastern Ave. had in his possession 3.6 grams of cocaine wrapped in two pieces. It was valued at $450.00
Barnes was arrested at a business on Brock Street by drug enforcement officers. Also located on Barnes was a syringe with white cocaine residue on it. He has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act. He will appear in court January 27th.?
FEMALE DAMAGES HUBBY'S CAR
This morning at 12:24 am, a 45-year-old female was charged with mischief to a vehicle. Investigation into the incident revealed that on June 7th, a 45-year-old male went to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Building with regards to a mischief complaint.
The male advised police that some damage had been done to a vehicle that was located at his residence on Goulais Avenue. The vehicle is locked in the garage and only he and his wife, the 45-year-old female, have access to this garage.
On May 7th, it is alleged that the female vandalized the vehicle by throwing a brick at it breaking the passenger window and the windshield, along with damaging the passenger rear quarter panel and trunk lid.
Further, between June 4th and June 7th. the female did more damage to the vehicle by slashing it with a 4 x 4 post. Patrol officers arrested and charged the female with Mischief and Breach of Probation. She will appear in court on August 18th.
BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated two break-ins over the weekend. At approximately 9:30 pm on June 14th a female in the 400 block of Wellington Street East advised police that thieves had entered the rear of her home and stolen her purse.
At 5:30 pm on June 15th, 2003 police were dispatched to an apartment on Goulais Avenue where sometime in the last week thieves broke into a the apartment and stole a T.V., a V.C.R. a telephone and a ladies leather coat.
