BREACH OF PROBATION
Last Friday, the accused, a 15-year-old male left his residence to go to school. He did not return home from school that afternoon. The youth did not come home until 1:30 am on June 8th. The young person was on a Probation Order to "abide by the rules of the household and keep the peace and be good".
The youth had a curfew of 10:00 pm on weekend nights. Patrol Officers were advised of the youth breaking his curfew and on June 8th at 8:15 pm they went to his residence and arrested and charged him with Breach of Probation. He will appear in court in mid July.
In a similar incident, a 15-year-old female who was on a court order to reside with her guardian left the residence on the May 30 and failed to return home. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was notified of the missing person and a warrant for the arrest of the youth was issued.
Patrol officers were unable to locate the youth until early this morning at 12:25. Patrol officers then arrested and charged her with Breach of Recognizance. She will appear in bail court today on this charge.
DRUNK IN A PUBLIC PLACE
Yesterday at 11:14 am, Bruce Sackanay, age 25 of #417-137 East Street was at Zellers in the Station Mall in an impaired condition. Patrol officers who were dispatched to the mall, met Sackanay and could detect the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person.
They noted Sackanay to have difficulty talking as he would slur his words and repeat phrases very often. The accused admitted to the Officers that he had been consuming liquor earlier. Sackanay had no identification on his person and identified himself verbally to the police officers with several different names.
Unable to determine the identity of the accused at the scene and fearing for his safety because of his level of alcohol impairment, the officers arrested him at 12:00 pm for being Intoxicated in a Public Place. Sackanay was transported to the Police Services Building.
A police records check revealed that he was on an undertaking with a condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol and to notify change of address immediately from 80 Simpson Street, Thunder Bay, Ontario. As a result, Sackanay was charged with two counts of Breach of Undertaking. He will appear in bail court today.
DAUGHTER STEALS MOM'S VAN
Sometime during Saturday evening, a 14-year-old female stole her mother's Dodge Caravan, from the parking area of their residence in the city's west end. The youth drove the van to the city's east end to visit a friend.
When the mother returned home on the evening of the 7th she noted the van gone and reported it stolen to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. In the early morning hours of June 8th, the 14 year old returned the van to the driveway without incident.
Patrol officers went to the youth's residence on June 8th at 10:25 am and spoke to her about the theft. The 14-year-old was arrested for Theft and has agreed to attend a diversion program under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
YOUTH ARRESTED
Yesterday, patrol officers observed three young females walking on Gore Street at approximately 5:00 am. One female was observed to be carrying two beer bottles.
The 14-year-old female initially identified herself as with a false name then advised the officers of her real name. A police records check revealed that the female was on a Recognizance and Probation Order, both of which had curfews. As a result, Officers arrested and charged the youth with breaching theses orders. She will appear in bail court today.
BREAK & ENTERS
Police investigated three break-ins yesterday. Yesterday, at approximately 8:30 am, police were advised of a break-in to the Party Palace at 647 Queen St. East.
At 9:11 pm, patrol officers were advised that the Victory Corner Stone Church at 346 Wellington Street West had been broken into.
At 11:43 pm, officers were notified that thieves had entered the Bayview Athletic Club at 135 Glasgow Avenue and had taken a small amount of cash. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers.
VEHICLES ENTERED
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was also kept busy investigating several thefts from motor vehicles yesterday in various sections of the city. Items stolen ranged from cell phones to purses and wallets.
You are reminded not to leave valuable items in your vehicle. Motorists are asked to ensure that the windows of their vehicles are done up and the doors of their vehicles are locked. Items of value should be secured in the vehicles trunk or taken into the residence for safekeeping.
