Police Remind Public
The public is reminded to allow themselves a little extra time in driving to work today. Yesterday’s snowfall has made the roads, especially those on the side streets, a little slick. Adjust your driving accordingly.
Dispute in West End
Shortly after midnight on the 6th of November City Police attended at a west end residence for domestic dispute between a 36-year old female and her boyfriend. It is alleged that the couple got into an argument that escalated to the female attacking the male by kicking him. The female also grabbed a kitchen knife and held it towards the male in a threatening manner. The female will appear in bail court this morning after being charged with one count of assault with a weapon and 2 counts of breach of release orders.
Ex Charged With Harrassment
A 47-year old male will also appear in bail court today as well. It is alleged that on the 6th of November around 5 pm the male threatening to kill her. Prior to this incident the complainant had made a couple of reports of her ex-husband calling her and bothering her and as a result he was cautioned by the police to leave her alone. Officers also received information that the accused was continuing to call her after the caution. The male has been charged with one count of threatening and one count of criminal harassment.
Drugs Seized From Queen West
Shortly before 5 pm on Friday officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Investigation Services Section along with officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a warrant at 1-671 Queen Street West. Officers located 55 grams of marihuana on the main level, and an additional 20 grams of marihuana was seized from the basement where it had been growing. Officers also located a flick knife and a can of mace, both of which are prohibited weapons. Officers also located a cut stock for a shotgun as well as some ammunition. Officers also located stolen property from 2 cottages in Danmont Township that were broken into in October. The property included stereo equipment, fish equipment, camera, sleeping bag and now empty liquor bottles. 5 persons have been charged. Marc Sweeney age 19 of 833 Town Line Rd has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purposes of trafficking. He will appear in court on December 13th. Craig McKie, age 19, and 42-year old Wilfred McKie, both of 1-671 Queen St W have each been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purposes of trafficking, one count of production of a controlled drug or substance, 2 counts of possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon. They will both appear in court on December 13th. A 17-year old youth has been charged with the same offences as the McKie males and will appear in court on December 14th. 20-year old Matthew Caudle of 1-671 Queen St W has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of production of a controlled drug or substance, 2 counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, 3 counts of property obtained by crime, one count of breach of release orders, and one count of possession of ammunition and prohibited weapons while on a prohibition order. Mr. Caudle will appear in bail court today. The drugs have a street value of approximately $1500
Theft Charge
On the 5th of November shortly before 11 am Ronald Marini, age 41, of 224 Wallace Terrace attempted to leave the Zellers Store in the Station Mall with 11 movie CD’s under his jacket. Store staff apprehended him and police were called. Mr. Marini was also on probation at the time of the offence. He has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in court on December 6th.
Imapired Driving
On The 6th of November around 3:30 am Canada Customs Officers stopped 26-year old Dennis Rinaldi of 2-114 Church Street at the International Bridge for impaired driving. He was turned over to City Police who continued the arrest. Mr. Rinaldi has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on December 13th.
Police Seek Witnesses
On Friday afternoon shortly after 3 pm officers form the Traffic Services Section attended at East Street and Albert Street East for an accident involving a car and a pedestrian. 86-year old Opal Litalian of Albert Street East was walking westbound across Albert Street East when a car struck her. The car was being operated by 29-year old Heather Boissoneau of Migisa Court, Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and was eastbound on Albert St E when she followed the curve and became northbound on East St. Mrs. Litalian was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. This matter is still under investigation and any witnesses are asked to call the Traffic Services Section ad 949-6300 ext 382.
Several Break And Enters
Over the weekend City Police had 3 reports of attempt break and enters and 5 reports of break and enters. The majority of them occurred during the daytime hours. A home in the 300 block of Huron Street had jewellery taken, as did homes in the 200 block of Eastern Avenue, 900 block of North St and the 100 block of Parker St. Thieves broke into Riverview School on Wireless but nothing appears taken. Attempts were made to homes in the 400 block of Northland Rd and the 900 block of North Street. An attempt was also made to break into the Anthony Domtar Inc business at 1195 Peoples Road.
Several Mischief Reports
City police received several reports of acts of mischief over the weekend. They include a house on Eastwood Street getting hit with eggs and yogurt and a rock thrown through a window in the 100 block of Eastern Avenue.
