The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service laid 135 charges under the Highway Traffic Act from Friday the 10th of October until Friday the 17th of October. The charges were for a variety of offences in a variety of locations in the city.
YOUNG OFFENDER CHARGED WITH MISCHIEF
On Sunday, the 19th of October 2003 at approximately 1:05 am the accused a 16-year-old young offender was observed walking away from a broken window at Silver Fox Antiques on Bruce Street. At 1:10 am the youth was arrested and charged with Mischief. The young person will appear in court in late November.
MORE YOUNG OFFENDERS
On the 19th of October 2003 at approx. 8:30 pm the accused a 16 year old young person was observed by police walking along a street in the city’s west end in the company of a person the youth was not allowed to be with. A police records check revealed the youth was on a recognizance not to associated with the other person and that the accused was wanted by the police service for failing to attend court. Patrol officers arrested and charged the youth with Failing to Appear in Court and Breach of Recognizance. The accused will appear in bail court today.
Another 17-year-old young person was also charged in this incident when police learned that the youth was on release conditions not to associate with the 16 year old accused. The youth was arrested and charged with Breach of Probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. This accused will appear in court in late November.
DOMESTIC ASSAULT CHARGE
On the 13th of October 2003 the accused, a 28-year-old male, became involved in a domestic dispute with an adult female. The incident escalated to an assault when the accused punched the victim in the head and pulled her hair. On October 19th at 11:56 pm the accused surrendered himself to police and was arrested and charged with Assault and Threatening. He will appear in court on November 24th.
JEWELLERY TAKEN IN BREAK IN
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated one break in that occurred in the past 24 hours. At 8:45 pm last evening patrol officers were called to a break in at home on Hudson Street. The homeowner advised police that a large quantity of jewellery was taken from the home.
