From Friday, September 26th until Friday, October 3rd, 2003 the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service charged 86 persons under the Highway Traffic Act for a variety of offences at various locations in the city.

YOUNG OFFENDERS
On Sunday, the 05th of October 2003 two 15 year old young persons were observed by patrol officers in the east end of the city shortly before 1:00 am. A police records check revealed the young persons were on release conditions not to associate with each other and be in their place of residence 9:00 pm – 7:00 am unless with adult. Both young offenders were arrested and charged with Breach of Probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They will appear in court at the end of October.

BEER STORE BUST
Also on Sunday, the 05th of October 2003 at approximately 3:32 am the accused Ryan Elliott, age 27 of 168 Church Street was in process of reaching inside a broken window at the Beer Store at 150 Churchill Blvd. when patrol officers arrived. When he was verbally challenged by police to stop, the accused ran north bound across Trunk Road and into the rear parking lot of an apartment complex on Breton Road where he was arrested .. He has been charged with Break and Enter and will appear in court on November 17th.

NO SHOW ARRESTED
On September 10, 2002 Robert Eshkibok, age 21 of 65 Bell Street, Garden River failed to attend for fingerprints on charges of Assault Police, Obstruct Police and Resist Arrest. A warrant was subsequently issued for the accused arrest. On the 05th October 2003 at approximately 6:00 am the accused was stopped in a vehicle on Queen Street. The accused was arrested and charged with Failing to Appear for Fingerprinting. He will attend in court November 24th.

U.S. IMMIGRATION GETS ONE
On Sunday the 05th of October 2003 in the early afternoon, a 22-year-old female was turned over from U.S. Immigration to Canada Immigration because of an outstanding Young Offenders Act arrest warrant. The female was trying to enter the United States when a records check revealed that a warrant for breach of probation was outstanding. City police officers took custody of the female and charged her with Breach of Probation. She will appear in court in mid November.

SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME
Patrol officers were advised that between the 03rd of October 2003 at 9:00 a.m. and the 05th October 2003 at 4:00 p.m. a 15-year-old young person was away from their residence, thereby breaching a nightly curfew that was stipulated in the youth’s probation order. On October 5th at 9:42 pm police officers arrested and charged the youth with Breach of Probation. The accused will appear in court in late October.

BEAR DISPATCHED
On Sunday morning, the 05th of October 2003 at 11:15 am at the rear of a residence in the 200 block of Reid Street patrol officers dispatched a large bear. Shortly after 10:00 am patrol officers responded to several calls from citizens in the Grand and Reid Street area about this large bear. The bear was located in a small wooded area behind a residential area, with no escape route for the animal. With the animals close proximity to a school, several apartment buildings and homes, and fearing for the public’s safety the bear was dispatched.

HOSPITAL REQUIRES ASSISTANCE
Shortly before 6:00 am this morning patrol officers were called to the Sault Area Hospital where a male was causing a disturbance. The male, Thomas Craig Witty, age 31 residing at the East Gate Hotel on Queen Street, advised staff at the hospital that he was going to get a shotgun and shoot them. At 5:55 am patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Threatening Death. He will appear in bail court today.

SEVERAL BREAK INS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated several break ins on Sunday. At 10:20 am a homeowner in the 300 block of Bush Street advised police that their garage had been entered. Nothing appeared missing in the shed but thieves damaged the interior of it.

At 12:43 pm a homeowner on Angelina Ave advised police that thieves had entered their garage and removed a bicycle and dirt devil vacuum. At 1:00 pm a homeowner in the 300 block of John Street advised police that their garage had been entered and thieves removed some tools including a grinder and a propane torch. And shortly before 5:00 pm another homeowner in the 300 block of Bush Street advised police that their shed had been broken into but nothing appeared missing.
