BREAK & ENTER
Yesterday at 6:45 a.m., city police received a call about a break & enter in progress at the Mapleview Inn on the Fourth Line East. Officers were told that several males with crowbars driving an older red half-ton truck with a black cab had entered the building and were leaving the scene westbound on the Fourth Line.

Patrol officers stopped the vehicle on Fourth Line West near Moss Road. Inside were three males, two aged 18 and one 19-year-old.

A search of the vehicle revealed to crowbars and a screwdriver as well as numerous packages of cigarettes and lighters which were linked to a break and enter at the Roosevelt Hotel on Korah Road that had occurred earlier in the morning.

A further investigation revealed that the Ford truck had been stolen from a residence on Wellington Street.

Police arrested and charged all three with attempted break & enter, break & enter, two counts of possession of stolen goods and possession of housebreaking tools.

Two of the accused are also charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with breach of probation and cannot be identified.

At 10:15 a.m. yesterday, the owner of Tony’s Auto Service at 4 Second Line East advised police that his business had been entered and a small quantity of cash taken. The three accused have also been charged with this break-in. They will appear in court on October 20.


UNLAWFULLY AT LARGE
On August 22, the accused, Brian Marion, age 33 of 41 Village Road in Blind River, was to report to the Algoma Treatment Remand d Centre at 9:00 a.m. to serve his intermittent sentence. At 1:00 p.m. on August 23rd he still had not reported to the centre and he was declared unlawfully at large by the staff there.

Yesterday at 10:55 a.m., Marion was arrested at the O.P.P. detachment in Thessalon for being unlawfully at large and breach of probation. He was transported to the Sault and turned over to City Police where he was charged. He will appear in court today.


YOUTH DAMAGES HOME
Last Thursday, the accused, a 16-year-old was told by family members not to enter a residence in the city’s east end, as the parents of the youth would be away for the weekend.

On Friday, in the late evening, the youth broke into the shed and then the residence he was told not to enter. Both the shed and the residence were damaged to the extent of a thousand dollars. He was arrested yesterday at 6:00 p.m. and charged by police.


TWO YOUTHS CHARGED IN BREAK-IN
Yesterday at 6:50 p.m., police were called to an apartment building on Cambridge Place for a break and enter in progress. The door was ajar when police arrived and the vacant building showed apparent signs of damage throughout including broken doors, broken ceiling tiles and smash florescent lights.

The co-accused, both 13 years of age, were located in the building. A records check revealed one of the youths was on probation. He was arrested and charged with breach of probation and break and enter. The second youth w3ho was arrested shortly after the first, was also charged with break & enter. Both will appear in court in mid October.


ARRESTED ON ALGOMA STEEL PROPERTY
Today, at 1:06 a.m., Adam Lenders, age 20 of 290 Westcourt Estate, Waterloo, was involved in a vehicle accident on Algoma Steel Property. Lenders was accused by steel plant security of driving erratically on their property.

When the security staff checked Landers near gate #2, he advised them he was looking for a hotel. As Landers was leaving he reversed the 1998 Ford he was driving and collided with the 2001 Chevrolet security van causing minor damage. Police were called and charged Landers with impaired driving.

A search of the accused revealed a partially filled vial of hash oil. He has also been charged with possession of a controlled drug and will appear in court on October 20.
