The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service from Friday, September 12, 2003 until Thursday, September 18, 2003 laid 86 charges under the Highway Traffic Act at a variety of locations in the city.
WEEKEND BREAK INS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service over the weekend investigated several break ins. Sometime between the September 19th at 6:00 pm and the 20th of September at 8:00 am, thieves broke into the compound at H&S Sports on White Oak Drive. Once inside, a boat motor was removed from a boat and the suspect attempted, unsuccessfully, to get the boat motor over the fence of the compound. The motor was left behind, but both the motor and the boat were damaged in the attempted theft.
At 3:05 am on September 21st a resident in the 600 block of Douglas Street advised police that his residence had been broken into and several items were missing, including his wedding rings.
On Monday, September 22, 2003 at 1:37 am patrol officers were called to the Beaver Gas Bar at 143 Trunk Rd. for a break in. Officers learned that a white male in his late teens or early twenties approximately 5’ 6” tall and with a medium build broke into the business and stole a quantity of cigarettes. The thief was wearing dark clothes and a dark coloured jacket. He was observed running away from the gas station and into a nearby waiting car.

ASSAULT
On the 20th of September 2003 at approximately 4:00 pm patrol officers attended at a residence on Queen Street West and spoke to an adult female who reported that a 43-year-old male, known to her, had assaulted her. The victim advised police that she had been assaulted by being struck with his hand. Police learned that the accused was on an undertaking not to communicate with, molest, harass or annoy her. The officer’s investigation revealed that the accused breached his undertaking on two occasions on the September 20th at 2:15 am and at approximately 3:00 pm. On the September 21st at approximately 9:05 pm patrol officers attended at the victim’s home and arrested and charged the accused with two counts of assault, two counts of unlawfully in a dwelling house, and two counts of breach of an undertaking. He will appear in bail court today.
BENCH WARRANTS SERVED
On August 18th, 2003 Calvin Fleming, age 26 of Richards Landing failed to attend court. A bench warrant and a first instance warrant was issued for his arrest. On the 21st of September at approximately 11:00 pm the accused was arrested by Anishinabek Police Service for impaired driving and transported to Sault Ste. Marie Police Service for breath tests. A police records check revealed the outstanding warrants arrest warrants for Failing to Attend in Court and Possession of a Controlled Drug. He will appear in court on October 27th.
