ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON
On the 7th of September at approximately 11:30 am in the 400 block of Queen Street West Kenneth Megginson, age 22 0f 414 Albert St. West, exposed what was alleged to be a knife concealed in the front of his pants, under his jacket, to another adult male. He and the male were arguing at the time and this escalated to physical violence when Megginson assaulted the male victim by punching him in the nose. The accused then assaulted another adult friend of the victim by pushing him. Neither victim was seriously injured in the incident. At 11:50 am patrol officers located Megginson in the 500 block of Queen Street West and he was arrested and charged with Assault, two counts of Assault with a Weapon and two counts of Breach of Probation. He will appear in bail court today.
STEAKS STOLEN
On Sunday, September 7th, 2003, at shortly after 2:00 pm the accused Mark Reed, age 35 of 14 Edison Street entered Rome's Independent Grocery Store at 44 Great Northern Road, Sault Ste Marie. Once inside the store the accused removed a quantity of steaks from the meat cooler and carried them out of the store without paying for them. Store security and patrol officers located the accused a short distance from the store and arrested and charged him with theft under $ 5,000.00. He will appear in court on October 20th.
CLOTHING ITEMS STOLEN
On the 20th of May 2003 at approximately 8:30 pm, the accused Bonnie Fantham, age 33 of 140 Arden Street entered the Zellers Department Store located at 292 Bay St. The accused then selected several clothing items from the store and conceal these items in a packsack that she had been carrying with her. She proceeded to try and exit the store with the items. Store security found the items a short time later in the female washroom. On the afternoon of September 7th patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with theft under $5, 000.00. She will appear in court on October 6th.
ASSAULT CHARGES
On September 7th, 2003 at approximately 9:00 pm, patrol officers were called to an apartment in the 1000 block of Wellington Street East. Officers learned that a 24 year old male had threatened his brother and physically assaulted him. The 24-year-old male also threatened his father. No serious injuries were reported. When officers arrived to investigate the incident the accused ran away from the scene, but returned about 45 minutes later and was arrested and charged with assault and two counts of threatening. He will appear in court on October 6th.
BREAKS CURFEW
On September 8th, 2003 at 12:37 am patrol officers were called to a Sault Ste. Marie group home facility. Officers learned that a 15 year old had disobeyed curfew and not returned home until after midnight. The youth who has a curfew from 10 pm to 6 am was subsequently arrested and charged with Breach of Probation. The young person will appear in court in early October.
OUTSTANDING WARRANTS
On the 8th of September 2003 at approximately 2:30 am, the accused Jody Leonard, age 31 of 2008 Mission Road Goulais Bay was observed by patrol officers walking eastbound on Queen Street West near Huron Street. A police records check on the accused revealed several outstanding arrest warrants for the charges of Theft and Failing to Appear in Court. Patrol officers executed these warrants and arrested Leonard. A search of the accused revealed a small bag containing a small amount of a white powder substance and 2 white pills. Officers believed the white powder to be cocaine, a controlled drug. The accused has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act. He will appear in bail court today on all charges.
WEEKEND BREAK INS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was kept busy overnight investigating several break ins. At 7:53 am Police were advised that the Hollywood Beauty Salon at 253 Trunk Rd. had been broken into and a small amount of money was taken. At 3:30 pm a resident on Hughes Street report his home had been entered. Thieves reportedly stole three VCR tapes, a computer tower and a DVD player. At shortly before 7:00 pm Police were advised of a break in to a residence in the 0 to 100 block of Wallace Terrace. At approximately 10:30 pm patrol officers were called to three break and enters on White Oak Drive. Thieves broke into Westburn Electric and Beta Power Fluid at 64 White Oak Drive, along with Nedco at 80 White Oak Drive. A small amount of cash was taken from one of these businesses. And at just after 11:00 pm Police were called to O’Sullivan and Donnelly Funeral Home at 215 St. James Street where thieves tried unsuccessfully to break in.
