SEATBELT CHECK
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be participating in the Provincial Spring Seatbelt Campaign beginning tomorrow, Sunday, April 13 through until Sunday, April 20. The goal is to ensure compliance with provincial seatbelt laws and infant/child restraints.
The police service will be scheduling additional officers to conduct spot checks throughout the city. It is important that seatbelts be worn correctly across the torso and snugly at the hips.
Proper use of seatbelts keeps the occupants in the correct position for other devices such as front and side airbags to function properly. Otherwise, the airbags may cause injury. The fine for not wearing your seatbelt or for improper use is $110 and two demerit points.
NOTHING TO REPORT
The City Police and the O.P.P. provide an excellent information service for the press from Monday to Friday but do not have information officers on duty on the weekends and do not issue press releases.
If something major is happening, however, such as closed highways, a large fire, missing person, something dangerous to the public, etc., etc., then that information is supplied and posted on this site immediately along with updates as the events unfold.
SooToday checks with both services first thing Saturday and Sunday mornings. Routine weekend occurrences are included in Monday's briefing by both services.
There is nothing to report today.
