EAST-WEST FOOTBALL GAME
It’s not exactly a full house in the police station cells this morning but they’re not empty either. Sergeant Joe Trudeau said it was a fairly busy night. The east – west football game at John Rhodes was well attended. None was arrested but there were a few liquor charges laid. Police say the crowd was well behaved.
COUPLE ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
Two adults, a male and a female in their mid-twenties, were arrested last night after it was alleged that they assaulted a third party who was known to them. The pair also violated their release conditions from a previous, similar assault charge. They will appear in W.A.S.H. court this morning.
BENNARDO'S ROBBED
The Station Mall staff stopped and held a robbery suspect for police. Daniel Miller, age 28 of no fixed address, allegedly took a ring from Bennardo’s Jewellers at 11:20 yesterday morning without paying for it. Mall staff located Miller on Bay Street and held him for police. Miller has been charged with theft and breach of release conditions from a previous incident. He will appear in W.A.S.H. court this morning.
W.A.S.H COURT
If you are not familiar with W.A.S.H. court, the acronym means Weekend and Statutory Holiday. It is a video-conferencing system covering all of Northeastern Ontario. On weekends and holidays, court is held for the entire north by one court staff. The location varies each week so each community has a turn.
