BEWARE OF COUNTERFEIT CHEQUES
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Fraud Unit is currently investigating counterfeit cheques, which appear to be issued by local businesses. These cheques were not issued by these businesses and are written on bank accounts that do not exist.

Businesses should verify with the source any cheques received made payable to a Pekka Kestitalo or any cheques issued by All Star Auto Glass or Otis Canada. Anyone with information regarding these frauds is asked to contact police at 949-6300.


YOUTH ATTEMPTS TO BREAK INTO VEHICLES
Yesterday at 2:10 pm, the accused, a 17-year-old male was in the secure parking area off of Foster Drive. At this time he was trespassing by checking door handles of vehicles.

Further, he was in possession of break-in tools, namely a screwdriver suitable for breaking into motor vehicles. He failed to identify himself to security from the parking area and proceeded to run away.

He was apprehended in the laneway off of Queen Street East. A police record check revealed an outstanding arrest warrant for Break and Enter with Intent issued by the Anishinabek Police Service.

The youth was also found to be on probation with a condition to keep the peace and be good. At 2:20 pm, patrol officers executed the warrant and arrested and charged the youth with Possession of Break In Instruments and Failing to Comply with a Disposition. He will appear in bail court today.


YOUTH ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
On March 31, the accused, a 13-year-old male, sexually assaulted the victim, a 15-year-old female who was known to him, by kissing her and grabbing her breasts.

On April 1, the accused again sexually assaulted the victim by kissing her, grabbing her breasts and exposing himself to her. On both occasions the female advised him to stop. Yesterday at 8:30 pm, detectives arrested and charged the accused with two counts of Sexual Assault. He will appear in bail court today.


DRUNK ARRESTED
Yesterday at approximately 11:51 pm, the accused, Derrick Cadreau, age 23 of 418 Wellington Street East, was allegedly intoxicated on the front lawn of a Wellington Street East residence.

He left that area just prior to police arrival. He was located on the roadway a short distance from the residence and ran from police. He stumbled in the front yard of a Hughes Street residence and police officers were able to speak with him.

Cadreau had a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. He was belligerent towards the police officers. For his own safety and the protection of people in the neighborhood at 12:08 am, officers arrested and charged Cadreau under the Liquor Licence Act with Intoxicated in a Public Place.

A police record check revealed the accused was on a recognizance with a curfew of 10pm -7am. He was also found to be on an undertaking with a no consumption of alcohol clause. The accused was charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with his Conditions. He will appear in bail court today.


BREAK & ENTERS
Yesterday the police service received three complaints of break and enters. An apartment on Bloor St. was entered sometime between Sunday and Wednesday and thieves stole a VCR and DVD player.

On April 1st and again on April 2nd thieves tried unsuccessfully to break into the Portuguese Canadian Association building on Cornwall Street and a home on Caesar Road was entered via a window. Thieves stole electronic equipment from the residence.
