Investigation In To Fire Complete
Officers from the Investigation Services Section have completed their investigation into the fire at the Norwest Inn that occurred yesterday morning. 24-year old Evan Wetelainenn of Highway 17 North, Dryden, Ontario has been charged with 2 counts of mischief under $5,000. Papers and a set of drums had been set on fire and were extinguished by the accused prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. The accused will appear in court on February 21st.
Break and Enter
20-year old Kyle Fitzherbert of 106-130 Allard Street will appear in bail court today. The accused was arrested yesterday for a break and enter that occurred last year. It is alleged that in June of 2004 the accused broke into the main branch of the Public Library located on East Street and stole a small amount of cash. The accused has been charged with one count of break and enter and commit the offence of theft.
Male Turns Self In
Last evening an 18-year old male turned himself into the City Police. Officers had taken a complaint of threatening on the 18th of January in which the ex-girlfriend complained of the accused threatening to harm herself and her new boyfriend. The male has been charged with 2 counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and will appear in court on February 21st.
Male Charged With Assault
A 42-year old male was arrested last evening after it was learned he assaulted his common law girlfriend. It is alleged the accused assaulted the female by hitting her in the face while in their residence. The female did seek medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The male has been charged with one count of assault. He will appear in court on February 21st.
Male Charged With Assault with a Weapon
22-year old Thomas Barker of 376 Northern Avenue was arrested early this morning after he assaulted another male by striking the victim in the face with a pool cue. The 2 males got into a verbal argument while at a drinking establishment in the central part of town. The victim did not require medical treatment for his injuries. The accused has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and will appear in court on February 21st.
Motor Vehicle Collisions
In the last 24 hours City Police responded to 21 motor vehicle collision calls. In the majority of the accidents, there were no injuries, minimal property damage and no charges laid. There was one accident with injuries that occurred on Trunk Road near the city limits last evening around 5 pm. The accident involved a pickup truck and a car. A car being operated by Barbara Espie of 368 Pine Island Road, Desbarats was disabled on the side of the road facing westbound and the rear of the vehicle was lodged in the snow bank. A pickup truck being operated by Andre Frenette of 187 Poplar Avenue, Sault Ste Marie was traveling westbound on Trunk Road when it collided with the car. Mrs. Espie was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Vehicle damage is described as moderate to severe. Officers from the Traffic Services Section are continuing their investigation into this matter and charges may be pending.
