BREAK & ENTER
On or about the 2nd of May 2003, the accused, Sally Cooper, age 41 of 230 Pittsburg Avenue, allegedly entered the apartment of a person she knew in the city's west end. The accused went into a lockbox stored in the apartment and took a large quantity of American and Canadian currency.
Yesterday at 10:50 am, detectives from the Investigation Services Section arrested the accused at the Sault Ste Marie Police Station. She has been charged with Break and Enter and Breach of Probation. She will appear in court on July 28th.
ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
Yesterday detectives completed a dated sexual assault investigation. Detectives learned that from 1994 to 2001, the victim, a 35-year-old female, was sexually assaulted by the accused, a 62-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie.
In 1994, the first incident occurred at home in Sault Ste. Marie and involved the accused rubbing the victim's groin. The second incident occurred at the same residence in the fall of 2001 when the accused hugged and kissed the victim and grabbed her groin area again.
Then from September 2001 to October 2001 at a west end residence the accused fondled the victim and had non-consensual sexual intercourse with her. And then in November 2001 at the same west end residence the accused touched the victim's groin area.
In addition Investigators learned that between August and November 2002 the accused sexually assaulted a 12-year-old female by touching her breast and groin area. The youth was related to the adult victim.
On June 18th at 4:20 pm, detectives from the Investigation Services Section arrested and charged the accused with two counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Sexual Interference. He will appear in bail court today.
STABBED WITH BROKEN BEER BOTTLE
On June 7th at approximately 12:30 a.m. the accused, Steven Waboose, age 19 of 144 Frontenac Street, allegedly became involved in a verbal altercation that escalated to physical violence with several other males at the corner of Trunk Road and Boundary Road.
At this time, the accused took a broken beer bottle and stabbed the victim, a 21-year-old male, in the back. The injury resulted in eight stitches. The accused was also on probation to keep the peace and be good, which he breached.
Yesterday at 6:40 pm, detectives met the accused at the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Building and charged him with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Assault with a Weapon and Breach of Probation. He will appear in court on July 21st.
PROHIBITED DRIVER ARRESTED
Yesterday at approximately 2:29 p.m., patrol officers observed a male driver operating a white Chevrolet Lumina westbound on Douglas Street. The officers observed the vehicle turn northbound onto McFadden Avenue.
Officers turned their patrol car around in an attempt to check the vehicle and observed that it was not on McFadden Avenue. Police located the vehicle parked in a private driveway off McFadden.
An investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Jeff Odber, age 20 of 340 Glasgow, was a prohibited driver. Officers arrested and charged him with Driving while Disqualified. He will appear in court on August 11th.
OUTSTANDING WARRANTS EXECUTED
At 9:20 pm last evening, patrol officers received information that a James Evans, age 49 of 3-760 Wellington Street East was walking on Pilgrim Street near Oakland Avenue. Officers located Evans a short distance from this location and executed two outstanding arrest warrants for Failing to Attend Court and Theft under $5,000.00. He will appear in court on July 28th.
MAN & WOMAN ASSAULT EACH OTHER
Yesterday, patrol officers were called to a residence in the Forest Avenue area in response to a domestic disturbance. Upon investigation, officers determined that the accused, a 21-year-old female and a 35-year-old male, had assaulted each other.
Injuries were minor in nature. At 10:00 pm, officers arrested and charged both parties with Assault. The male faces an additional charged of Breach of Probation. They will appear in court at the end of July.
IMPAIRED DRIVER
At 1:15 am today, patrol officers observed a vehicle weaving as it was travelling on Wellington Street West near the underpass. Officers checked the driver of the vehicle and determined he was drinking.
The driver failed a roadside screening devise test. At 1:20 am, patrol officers arrested and charged Andrew Donovan, age 36 of 364 Wallace Terrace, with Driving over .08. He will appear in court on July 21st.
ATTEMPTED BREAK & ENTER
At 3:12 this morning, officers were called to a home on Grandview Avenue where thieves attempted to break into the garage. Officers believe that the alarm siren attached to the garage frightened the thieves away before they could steal anything.
