At 1:40 pm yesterday, patrol officers were called to a home on Edison Avenue where police learned that a 15-year-old male had made threats to assault an adult female relative of his.

The youth was verbally abusive with his relations and made a striking gesture towards one of them. Officers arrested the youth and charged him with Assault and Breach of Undertaking. He will appear in bail court today.


DRUG BUST
Yesterday at 2:09 pm, officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at an upstairs apartment on Douglas Street. Police officers located James Caswell, age 31 of 519 Douglas Street at home at this time.

A subsequent search of the residence revealed one rifle under Caswell's bed, with a magazine in the firearm with seven .30-30 rounds, making this a loaded firearm (careless manner).

Also, under the bed was an unsafely stored shotgun with seven rounds in one magazine this makes this magazine a prohibited device. Officers also located approximately 185.5 grams of cannabis resin, under one gram of cannabis hashish and over 32 grams of cannabis resin residue (roaches) packaged separately.

Total street value of illicit product seized (not including cannabis resin residue) is estimated at $3,714.00. Police also seized over $600.00 in cash, along with a electronic safe used for storing the illicit product.

Drug Unit Officers also located debt lists, weigh scales and other associated paraphernalia, consistent with trafficking.

Officers arrested and charged Caswell with Possession of a Controlled Drug, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Controlled Drug, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, two counts of Careless use of Firearm or Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 14th.


SHOPLIFTER ARRESTED
Yesterday at 3:55 pm the accused, a 14-year-old male from Great Northern Road, was in the Electronics Department at Wal-Mart. He picked up a Limp Bizket CD valued at $20.88, cut off the security tag and eventually left the store without paying.

He was stopped by security and arrested and brought to the office where the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was notified. Patrol officers went to the store and charged the youth with Theft under $5,000.00. He will appear in court in early April.


LEFT THREATS ON ANSWERING MACHINE
Early today at approximately 3:06 am, Lisa Mortari, age 24 of 734 Wellington Street West did allegedly threatened to cause bodily harm or injury to a 21-year-old female. This threat was made via telephone with a message left on the answering machine of the victim.

Patrol Officers were unable to locate Mortari and a warrant for threatening death or bodily harm was issued for her arrest. This morning at 1:40 am Patrol Officers had better luck and were able to locate Mortari, when they were called to her address for a disturbance. Officers executed the arrest warrant and she is scheduled to appear in court on April 14th.


ARRESTED ON OUTSTANDING WARRANTS
Patrol officers, at 2:45 this morning, conducted a vehicle check on Queen Street East near Gore Street. A male passenger in the rear seat identified himself with a valid Ontario drivers licence as Dennis Maki, age 25 of 177 Bayview Drive #34 Barrie On.

A police records check showed an arrest warrant was outstanding for failing to appear in court and threatening. Officers executed these warrants and arrested Maki. He will appear in bail court today.
