ARRESTED & CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING
Yesterday at 4:35 pm, an off-duty police officer observed a lone male in a black Pontiac sedan doing donuts at the west end of Canal Road.
The officer, who was leaving the area in a private vehicle, noted the Pontiac accelerate rapidly and come up to the rear of his vehicle, braking sharply before striking it.
The officer stopped his vehicle on the roadway near the train crossing and got out of it and spoke with the driver. He exhibited signs of consuming alcohol and a patrol car was summoned to the scene.
Officers arrested and charged John Page, age 50, of 141 Grosvenor Avenue with Driving over .08. He will appear in court on June 2nd.
TWO YOUTHS ARRESTED
Last evening at 9:20, patrol officers checked two young males at the corner of Wallace Terrace and Patrick Street. The youths, age 16 and 17 were on release conditions not to be associating with each other.
The 17-year-old male of no fixed address was on a condition to be in his residence by 9:00 pm each night. The 16-year-old male from Smale Avenue was also found to breaching his release conditions by smoking marijuana.
Police Officers arrested and charged both youths under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with Breach of Probation. They will appear in bail court today.
TRUCK USED TO DAMAGE EX-WIFE?S PROPERTY
Early today at 12:02 am the accused, a 49-year-old male from east end drove his truck over to his ex-wife's home, also located in the city's east end and drove it into the carport post supports.
In addition to striking the carport, the truck also struck the rear of the victim's car that was parked in the driveway. This collision forced the car through the rear of the carport and into the back yard.
Damage to the car and the structure is estimated at over $7,000.00. After striking these objects, the male exited the truck and began pounding on the door of the residence with a piece of wood.
Unsuccessful at gaining entry to the home, he left the scene in his damaged truck. The victim was in the residence at the time. Patrol Officers were called to the scene and began an investigation into the incident.
The 46-year-old female victim and her teenage son left the residence and went to stay at a friend's home on St. Joseph's Island.
Subsequently police were advised that the 49-year-old male's truck was seen headed to the island and officers from the Ontario Provincial Police stopped the truck on Highway 548 at St. Joseph's Island.
The accused was arrested for his involvement in this occurrence and transported back the City of Sault Ste. Marie by the O.P.P. At approximately 3:00 am patrol officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service charged the male with Mischief over $ 5,000.00 and Criminal Harassment. He will appear in bail court today.
