R.I.D.E RESULTS FOR 2003
The Traffic Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service reports the following R.I.D.E. statistics for 2003:
Vehicles checked- 5600, Roadside tests- 100, 12 Hr. suspensions- 22, Impaired Driving Charges-5, charges under the Controlled Drug & Substance Act, and numerous Highway Traffic Act charges. The R.I.D.E. program will continue through the winter months.
VEHICLE-PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT
At the intersection of Queen Street and Elgin Street there was a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
A motor vehicle being driven by David James Haight, age 61, of 99 Pine Street, was attempting to make a left turn from Queen Street onto Elgin Street where the pedestrian, Dianne Carlyle, age 45, was struck by the vehicle.
Ms. Carlyle was taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries. Mr. Haight was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Failing to yield to a Pedestrian. The accident occurred at 2:38 p.m. on Monday Jan 5th.
ARRESTED FOR THEFT
An incident in the 100 block of Queen Street East resulted in the arrest of Raymond Scott Gregoire, age 20.
It is alleged that Mr. Gregoire entered a local business and attempted to steal money and merchandise. He was located near the Paul Mall where he was arrested.
Mr Gregoire will appear in Bail Court this morning at 10:00.
IMPAIRED CHARGE
At approximately 1:36 this morning officers were called to 510 Second Line East where a vehicle had been driven off the roadway and onto a snow bank.
Charged with Impaired Driving, Over 80mg, Breach of Probation and driving while prohibited is Paul Arnold Firlotte, age 20, of 627 MacDonald Ave. He will appear in Bail Court this morning.
BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is investigating three reports of Break and Enters over the past 24 hours.
The Family Chiropractic Clinic located at 898 Queen St. E. and the Christian Science Society located at 914 Queen Street East as well as a residence in the 500 block of Cathcart Street were entered.
In the incident at the Christian Science Society the culprits entered by forcing the front door.
City police are also investigating the report of two stolen vehicles. Between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM a snow machine was taken from the back of a pickup truck that was parked in the 600 block of Wellington Street West. Stolen was a 1999 SkiDoo Formula 3, purple in colour.
The second vehicle was stolen at 5:20 this morning from the Mike's Mart Store at Second Line W. and Goulais Avenue. The vehicle is described as a 1977 Chev 3/4 ton pick up - light blue in colour. The vehicle has the name "WEEBLES" written on the front hood. The licence plate on the vehicle is # JA 7069.
VEHICLE TORCHED
In other incidents from over night police were called to an address in the 100 block of Wellington Street West to investigate a mischief caused by fire. In this incident culprits caused extensive damage to a vehicle by setting fire to the interior the vehicle.
