THEFT CHARGE
At 4:20 pm yesterday, patrol officers were called to the 49th Apparel store at 480 Queen St. East where a female allegedly had attempted to remove two dresses from the store without paying for them.
Officers arrested and charge Terry-Lynn Syrette, age 33 of 62 Allard Street with Theft under $5,000.00 and Breach of Probation. She will appear in court on July 21st.
ARRESTED FOR FRAUD
On January 17th, John Perry sold two ceiling fans to a homeowner on Country Club Place. Perry was to install the ceiling fans and a cheque was given to him for the fans and the installation. The cheque was cashed in January 2003.
Dates were arranged in March 2003 to install the fans, however the work was never completed. On June 16th at 7:25 pm patrol officers arrested and charged John Perry, age 33 of 678 Lennox Avenue, with Fraud under $ 5,000.00. He will appear in court on July 28th.
STOLEN PICK-UP RECOVERED
Sometime during the evening of Tuesday the 10th of June thieves stole a 1990 Nissan pick-up from a compound on Peoples Road. Patrol officers received information that the pick-up had been towed to a parking lot on Goulais Avenue.
Early today, at 12:58 am, officers arrested and charged Shawn McCall, age 19 of 524 Goulais Avenue with Theft under $ 5,000.00, Possession of Stolen Property and Breach of Probation. The vehicle was recovered. McCall will appear in bail court today.
CAR/PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT
At 4:25 pm yesterday afternoon at Bruce and Albert Streets East, patrol officers investigated a pedestrian/motor vehicle collision. Deborah Chapman, age 51 of 328 Wellington Street East was crossing Albert Street from the south side to the north side, outside of the east crosswalk. (Just east of the marked east crosswalk.)
Christel Shortt, age 21 of 179 McDougald Street, was turning her 1990 Pontiac sedan right onto Albert Street from north on Bruce Street. The traffic signal was red for traffic north bound on Bruce at the time of the incident.
The Shortt vehicle struck Chapman as she was crossing the first or most southerly eastbound lane of Albert Street. Chapman was taken to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. No charges have been laid.
BEAR SHOT AND KILLED
Shortly after 1:00 pm yesterday, police officers were called to a home on the north end of Peoples Road where a bear broke a window attempting to gain entry to the residence. The bear left the area without causing further damage prior to police arriving.
At approximately 4:40 pm in the 1500 block of Peoples Road, just south of the first bear incident, a 12-year-old girl went into her garage to get her bicycle and was confronted by a bear. The bear was not frightened off and fearing for the safety of his child, the homeowner dispatched the bear.
Police were notified of the incident and city staff removed the bear from the residence. Officers were unable to determine if the same bear was involved in both incidents.
