The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service issued 124 tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for the week ending October 10th. These tickets were for a variety of offences in various areas of the city.
Police experienced a relatively quiet Thanksgiving weekend. The following are the arrests from the past two days.
ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
On the 28th of September 2003 Jason Artuso, age 31 of 784 Goulais Avenue allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old male known to him by hitting him in the face several times, pushing him to the ground and kicking him.
The assault occurred in a bar in the city’s west end. The victim’s eye was injured in the assault. Yesterday at 6:58 pm, patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Aggravated Assault. He will appear in court on November 17th.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
At 1:05 pm yesterday afternoon officers were called to an east end address for a domestic dispute. Officers determined that a 62-year-old male had assaulted his wife.
The victim received minor injures in the incident. The accused was arrested and charged with Assault. He will appear in court on November 24th.
PROPERTY SMASHED
On the 11th of October at. 11:00 pm the accused, Shaun Bell, age 26 of 13 Ascott Avenue, smashed an electronic game player and bike rims at the residence of an adult known to him.
The victim’s residence was also damaged. On October 12th at 7:55 pm the accused went to the Police Services Building and was charged with Mischief. He will appear in court on November 17th.
ARRESTED FOR BREACHING PROBATION
In the late spring of 2003, the accused, John Gregoire, age 63 of Searchmont, was on a probation order with conditions to report to the jail every night at 7:00 pm and not to consumed alcohol.
In mid June the accused breached this condition and was charged with Breach of Probation. The accused agreed to be fingerprinted in early July and go to court in late July 2003. He failed to appear on both dates and arrest warrants were issued for him.
On the 12th of October at 4:15 pm patrol officers from the Ontario Provincial Police arrested the accused and delivered him to the City Police Service. He was charged with Failing to Appear for Fingerprinting, Failing to Appear in Court and Breach of Probation. He will appear in bail court today.
COMBAT AT EX-GIRLFRIEND’S RESIDENCE
On the 10th of October at approximately 2:45 am, the co-accused, two 23-year-old males from the city’s west end broke into a west end residence.
Once inside the home, the accused kicked in a door of a bedroom where one of the co-accused’s ex-girlfriends was sleeping. When a male third party tried to intervene in the domestic argument, a fight broke out between the co-accused and the third party. Minor injures were received by the combatants. Before leaving the residence, one of the accused threatened to harm the third party.
On the 12th of October at the noon hour, the co-accused went to the Police Services Building and were arrested and charged for Break and Enter. One of the co-accused faces the additional charges of Assault and Threatening. They will appear in court on November 17th.
BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated two break-ins in the past 24 hours.
At 2:20 pm a homeowner on Bush Street reported that thieves attempted to break into his home.
At 4:20 am this morning officers attended at a home on Farquhar Street where thieves had broken into a shed and stole numerous items, including a lawn mower.
On October 12th the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated 2 more break-ins. At 12:48 pm a homeowner on Park Street advised police that thieves had broken into his residence and removed several household items and at 7:21 pm a resident of Chippewa Street advised police that thieves had attempted to break into his home.
