MAN ESCAPES AT COURT HOUSE
Yesterday, shortly after 11:00 am, the accused, Adrian Smith, age 19 of 145 McNabb Street was in lawful custody at the Court House. While escorting Smith to a cell, he broke away from two Special Constables and ran down a hallway.
On his way out, the accused smashed a door window. The accused ran eastbound across March Street pursued by the two Special Constables. He was caught in the Spring Street Lot.
The accused was placed back in the Court House cells and was informed of the new charges of Mischief and Escape Lawful Custody. He will appear in bail court today.
ARRESTED WITH STOLEN COMPUTER
Yesterday at 3:23 pm, patrol officers were called to the corner of Queen Street and Gore Street where a male was carrying a machette in a case and a laptop computer down the street.
Officers had received information that the male had entered a business, Work Wear on Queen Street and had left with the computer. Officers checked the male and found that the computer was indeed stolen from Work Wear and arrested and charged Melvin Pine, age 39 of 421 Wellington Street East with Possession of Stolen Property and Theft under $5,000.00. He will appear in bail court today.
Officers are still trying to ascertain the owner of the machete. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300.
SEVERE DAMAGE IN BAY STREET ACCIDENT
Patrol Officers were called to a motor vehicle collision on Bay at Brock Streets last evening at 7:28 pm. Officers found that a silver Hyundai Santa Fe had collided with a 1999 black Ford Taurus sedan in the intersection.
Both vehicles received severe damage. There were no serious injuries in the collision. Investigators are requesting anyone who may have witnessed this collision to please contact the Traffic Services Section of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300.
INTOXICATED MALE ARRESTED
At 9:40 pm. patrol officers were called to department store off Great Northern Road for an intoxicated male to be removed. Officers learned that the 36-year-old male of no fixed address was lying sprawled out on his back behind the store.
The officers observed a can of paint thinner lacquer thinner and a rag soaked in lacquer thinner in his hands. Patrol officers believed that the male had used the solvent as an inhalant. A police records check revealed that the male was on probation to not consume any solvents.
He was arrested and charged with Breach of Probation. His condition was monitored at the Police Services Building overnight and he will appear in bail court today.
BREAK AND ENTER
Patrol Officers investigated an attempted break in to a store at Cambrian Mall this morning. At 2:22 am officers were called to the Lindor store in the mall where thieves had unsuccessfully attempted to entered. Anyone with information about this break in is asked to call the Sault Ste.
