MAN ESCAPES CUSTODY
Yesterday at 426 Queen Street East, the courthouse, at approximately 12:40 pm the accused, Justin Lewis, age 21 of 58 Gibbs Street, while being in lawful custody following sentencing escaped by fleeing from a special constable and running from the court house.
As Lewis was being taken into the cell area he moved away from the Special Constable and ran out the west side doors. The special constable, a family member, his council and a police officer pursued him out of the courthouse and yelled at him to stop.
As he neared the corner of Queen Street and Elgin Street, Lewis stopped running and surrendered himself to police. He was arrested and charged with Escaping Lawful Custody. He will appear in bail court today.
DRUG BUST
Yesterday at 9:35 pm, patrol officers observed two vehicles parked behind St. Pius X School on Oryme Avenue. The officers spoke to the three young males present and noted some rolling papers in one of the vehicles.
A further consent search of one of the vehicles revealed a plastic baggie with a small quantity of marijuana in it. One of the males, a 17-year-old from Garden River, advised police he had found the drugs. Officers arrested and charged him with Possession Of A Controlled Drug. He will appear in court at the end of April.
ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
Yesterday at RMH Call Centre, 345 Queen Street East, the accused, Rocky O'Neil, age 21 of 642 Wellington Street East #11, allegedly threatened to cause bodily harm to another male employee and threw a hot cup of coffee at him causing minor burns to his stomach.
Police were notified of the incident at 9:25 pm and began an investigation. Several hours later, early today at 12:40 am, the accused went to the police station and was arrested and charged with Assault and Uttering Threats. He will appear in court April 28th.
ARRESTED FOR BREACH
Yesterday at 3:56 pm, Franklin Hodgkins, age 38 of 16 Jody Lane, Heyden, spoke to an adult female in the hall of the courthouse at 426 Queen Street East. Hodgkins had been released on a recognizance to not communicate with the female.
Hodgkins spoke to the female in a belligerent tone in the presence of a police officer and then left the courthouse. A police records check conducted by the officer revealed that Hodgkins was on the recognizance. Patrol officers located the accused walking on Peoples Road. at 4:47 pm.
He was arrested and charged with two counts of Breach of Recognizance. Hodgkins had been ordered to live at a Johnson Avenue address and failed to advise the court that he moved to Jody Lane. He will appear in bail court today.
IMPAIRED DRIVER
Early today at approximately 12:54 am, the accused Richard Moxon, age 55 of 192 Tilley Road allegedly drove his Ford Windstar while impaired. Patrol officers observed Moxon driving the wrong way down Cathcart Street.
The officers stopped the van and spoke to the driver. They noted Moxon to have a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and to display signs of alcohol impairment. He was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving and transported to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Building. He will appear in court April 28th.
ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED & DRUGS
This morning at 2:17, the accused, Jordan Anderson, age 20 of 363 North Street, was operating a 1991 Toyota 4Runner while his ability to do so was impaired.
Patrol officers noted that the accused was eastbound on Johnson Avenue when he almost struck their police cruiser that was proceeding westbound. The accused was stopped on St Patrick's Street and arrested for impaired. The accused had a strong smell of alcohol on breath, red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
Police officers conducted a search of the drivers seat area and located a Player's cigarette tin with 2 five-gram vials. One vial had what was believed to be hash oil in it. Anderson was transported to the Police Services building where he was charged with Impaired Driving and Possession of a Controlled Drug. He will appear in court on April 28th.
BREAK & ENTERS
Police officers are investigating two break and enters from the last 24 hours. Sometime between 5:00 pm on the March 24 and 8:00 am yesterday, thieves broke into 27 Great Northern Road, Citi Financial.
Entry was gained by forcing a door open. Thieves stole a small amount of cash and a Sony DVD player still in the box. The DVD player was later located behind the business and returned to the owners. And this morning at 4:30 am in an attempted break in thieves threw a rock through the front window at Savoy's Jewellers at 290 Queen Street East.
