FROM YESTERDAY’S POLICE BEAT
A 19-year old male was remanded to bail court after OPP officers assisting City Police arrested him. Late Saturday evening he forced his ex-girlfriend into his vehicle. The female had been in a restaurant in the City’s east end when he showed up in the restaurant and forced her to go out to his vehicle.
OPP officers, who had been provided a description by city police, spotted the vehicle. The accused was arrested in the Batchewana area without incident and the female was fine. It was noted by the officers that there was a .22 rifle and a .410 shotgun in the back of the male’s vehicle. Neither firearm had trigger locks and there was also ammunition in the back of the vehicle.
The male has been charged with one count of forcible confinement and two counts of careless storage of a firearm.
Update to yesterday’s story
Officers from the Investigation Services Section of the City Police, after follow-up, have charged the 19-year old male with 5 additional charges in relation to a domestic violence incident that was reported on the weekend.
He has been charged with 2 counts of mischief, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and one count of careless use of a firearm. He will be appearing in bail court today.
YOUNG PERSON NOW ADULT
Yesterday afternoon an 18-year-old caught the attention of patrol officers and when they did a check on him they found out he was wanted on outstanding warrants for breaches of probation.
At the time of the offences the accused would have been a young person and as a result, the name cannot be released.
It is alleged he failed to comply with his probation order by failing to report on 3 separate occasions to the youth’s probation officer between June of last year and August of this year. A warrant had been requested. He will appear in bail court today after being arrested for 3 counts of breach of probation as a young person.
THREATENING DEATH
A 15-year-old youth will also be in bail court this morning after city police arrested him yesterday afternoon. It is alleged that the youth threatened to kill another person and as a result of this complaint, he was arrested and charged with one count of threatening to cause death.
SHE ASSAULTED HIM
On the 4th of September, city police received a report of a domestic dispute between a male and a female. It is alleged the female assaulted the male by punching him several times in the face while they were in a downtown residence. The male received a split lip from the assault. The female was arrested late yesterday afternoon and will appear in bail court after being charged with one count of assault.
BREAK & ENTERS
City Police are investigating 2 break and enters from overnight. It does not appear that anything was taken in either incident, however officer are waiting for homeowners to confirm that as they go through their belongings. The break and enters occurred in the 200 block of Bay Street and the 100 block of Cathcart Street.
POLICE REQUEST
Police would like to remind you that all schools are back in today. School buses are out in full force and drivers need to be aware of them. Remember to wait until the bus driver has shut off the flashing lights and pulled in the stop sign before starting to drive again. Let’s make this an accident free return to school for the children in our City.
