Another crash at intersection where city removed traffic lights

Noon hour collision happened at downtown intersection that recently had its lights turned off as part of city traffic study

Another crash has happened at one of the three Sault intersections that recently had its lights turned off as part of a city traffic study.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Albert Street East and Elgin Street shortly after noon Monday.

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service spokesperson Lincoln Louttit told SooToday

The investigation is ongoing.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie announced a traffic study in May, which included turning off the street lights at three intersections and adding stop signs to the minor roads instead.

In this instance, motorists on Albert Street now have the right of way, while drivers on Elgin must stop at new stop signs.
