Rudy Timmerman and Graham Newman are to be inducted into the Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony later this week, the city announced in a news release issued today.
Among other achievements, Timmerman has years of martial arts under his belt and Newman contributed to local baseball in the city.
The virtual induction ceremony is set to take place at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is pleased to announce the 2021 inductees into Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame: Rudy Timmerman and Graham Newman.
GRANDMASTER RUDY W. TIMMERMAN/MARTIAL ARTS/BUILDER
- Founded Ancient Fighting Arts (1973), and the Legion Hapkido school (2018)
- Founded National Korean Martial Arts Association (1973), and KMA Masters Hall of Fame (2014)
- Creator of Bon Soo and Can-Am Classics Martial Arts Tournaments
- Inducted in Pioneers and Legend Hall of Fame and Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fame
- Published two books on Korean martial arts, and is currently working on a third
GRAHAM NEWMAN/BASEBALL/BUILDER
- 1990 to 2021 Soo Minor Baseball Outstanding Volunteer and Passionate Leader
- Developed Sinclair Yards Baseball Complex
- 2002 Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal Recipient
- 1990 to 2021- VP Administration – Soo Minor Baseball Association
- Mr. Newman’s legacy is the Sinclair Yards Seven Diamond Baseball Complex and Service Buildings construction, development, maintenance, upgrades and yearly operations
The Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame Committee will be holding an induction ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. It will be held virtually, and members of the media are welcome to participate.
